On the afternoon of June 22, a delegation from the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE), including Zhao Jianjun, Deputy Secretary-General; Li Feng, Assistant Director of the Awards Office; and Yu Annie, Staff Member of the Awards Office, visited the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University for a discussion and exchange in Conference Room 2-213. The meeting was attended by Kang Chongqing, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering; Hu Wei, Assistant to the Department Head and Director of the Department Office; Guo Hongye, Member of the Department Party Committee and Deputy Head of the Graduate Affairs Group; Assistant Professor Yang Yang; Assistant Research Fellow Ma Ningning; and Pang Jupeng, Ph.D. candidate and Graduate Affairs Group Assistant. The meeting was chaired by Hu Wei.

Discussion Session

At the meeting, Kang Chongqing welcomed Zhao Jianjun and his delegation on behalf of the Department and introduced the Department’s overall development. He presented the Department’s efforts in serving China’s energy and electric power sector and supporting the development of new power systems, focusing on disciplinary development, talent cultivation, scientific research, and public service. Zhao Jianjun introduced the work of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering, highlighting its recent priorities in academic exchange, scientific and technological innovation, awards administration, standards development, science popularization, international cooperation, and member services. Li Feng introduced the Society’s young talent development system, focusing on the cultivation of young scientific and technological professionals, the doctoral student special program, the Young Talent Support Program, scientific and technological awards, and nomination channels. She also exchanged views with the Department on the cultivation of young talent.

Guo Hongye introduced the CSEE Tsinghua University Member Center. Established on December 14, 2017, the Member Center currently has 270 members. Positioned as a platform connecting the Society, the University, industry, and individual members, the Center relies on organizational units including the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Energy Internet Technical Committee, and the Student Member Center to continuously provide member services and organize academic activities, talent recommendations, international exchanges, and science popularization and training. In recent years, the Center has organized a series of events, including the CSEE Youth Forum on Innovation in Energy and Electric Power, the “Academicians and Experts on Campus” program, academic seminars, and CIGRE academic exchange activities. It has also organized members’ participation in the Society’s annual conferences and thematic forums, while recommending numerous young faculty members and students for the China Association for Science and Technology’s Doctoral Student Special Program under the Young Scientific and Technological Talent Development Initiative and the Young Talent Support Program.

Pang Jupeng introduced the Department’s Doctoral Student Forum. Led by the Tsinghua University Graduate School with the active participation of the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Forum is open to doctoral and master’s students as well as experts in related fields from China and abroad. It has established a comprehensive talent development process encompassing paper submission, peer review, academic exchange, awards selection, and dissemination or journal recommendation. In 2025, the Tsinghua University–IET Electrical Engineering Academic Forum was held under the theme “Artificial Intelligence Empowering Electrical Engineering,” featuring keynote speeches, thematic parallel sessions, poster presentations, faculty–student discussions, corporate presentations, and technical visits. In 2026, the Tsinghua University–IET–China Electric Power Research Institute Electrical Engineering Academic Forum adopted the theme “Carbon Neutrality and Intelligent Energy Interconnection.” The forum attracted more than 350 participants and featured 13 oral presentation sessions, 93 oral presentations, and 110 poster presentations. The topics covered included high-penetration renewable energy, stability of new power systems, electricity markets and low-carbon planning, artificial intelligence for power systems, energy storage, and transportation electrification.

During the discussion session, participants engaged in in-depth exchanges on topics including the development of the Member Center, cultivation of young talent, construction of academic exchange platforms for doctoral students, scientific and technological awards and talent nomination, international conference and journal resources, collaborative science popularization activities, and AI-enabled electrical engineering. Participants agreed that the complementary strengths of the Society’s platform and Tsinghua University’s disciplinary resources could be further leveraged to establish long-term cooperation mechanisms in areas including doctoral student forums, Engineering Doctor forums, summer schools, overseas internships, journal promotion, and the dissemination and application of Dianyuan 1.0. Such collaboration would provide young students with more continuous academic training, resource integration, and professional development support.

Discussion Session

The meeting further strengthened ties between the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering and the Department of Electrical Engineering, laying a solid foundation for deeper cooperation in member services, young talent cultivation, academic exchange, and public service. Looking ahead, the two sides will continue to focus on the strategic needs of China’s energy and electric power sector, promote the sharing of high-quality resources and the joint development of flagship activities, and work together to advance the development of the electrical engineering discipline and the cultivation of high-caliber innovative talent.
