On May 27, a delegation led by Wang Tianyun, Party Secretary of the Faculty of Electric Power Engineering at Kunming University of Science and Technology, visited the Department of Electrical Engineering. The two sides held an exchange symposium in Conference Room 213, Area 2 of the West Main Building. Attendees included Tang Honglei, Member of the Faculty Affairs Committee and Deputy Dean of the Department of Hydraulic Engineering at Kunming University of Science and Technology; Li Wenbo, Director of the Student Affairs Office; Zheng Zedong, Party Secretary of the Department of Electrical Engineering; Wu Wenchuan and Yu Zhanqing, Deputy Party Secretaries; and Sun Kai and Chen Laijun, Deputy Deans of the Department. The meeting was chaired by Zheng Zedong.

At the Symposium

Prior to the symposium, Sun Kai led the delegation from Kunming University of Science and Technology on a tour of the Department History Museum and the State Key Laboratory of Operation and Control of New-Type Power Systems, introducing in detail the Department’s development history, disciplinary development, and scientific research platforms.

At the symposium, Zheng Zedong welcomed Wang Tianyun and his delegation on behalf of the Department of Electrical Engineering and introduced the Department’s faculty development, as well as the staffing and management of its postdoctoral researchers, full-time research personnel, regional research institutes, and state key laboratories.

Chen Laijun introduced the Department’s scientific research initiatives. He highlighted the Department’s research framework of “one department, two institutes, one laboratory, and one alliance,” which is built upon the Beijing Research Institute, Sichuan Research Institute, the State Key Laboratory, and the National Energy Internet Industry and Technology Alliance. He also introduced the “five-in-one” collaborative mechanism established in the process of organized scientific research, summarized its achievements, and discussed prospects for future cooperation between the two sides in serving local socioeconomic development and conducting research based on regional characteristic resources.

Yu Zhanqing introduced the Department’s talent cultivation and student affairs initiatives. He focused on the residential college model for undergraduate education, the degree system for professional master’s and engineering doctoral programs, and the “five-dimensional integrated education” student affairs framework. He also shared the Department’s distinctive practices in areas such as mental health support, social practice, and high-quality employment, and expressed hope for stronger future cooperation with Kunming University of Science and Technology in student internships, career guidance, and related areas.

Wang Tianyun thanked the Department of Electrical Engineering for its warm reception and introduced the development history, faculty scale, disciplinary development, and talent cultivation of the Faculty of Electric Power Engineering at Kunming University of Science and Technology. He noted that the electrical engineering discipline at Kunming University of Science and Technology has a long history and strong student quality, while the faculty currently faces urgent needs in attracting high-level talent and building research teams. He expressed hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Tsinghua University’s Department of Electrical Engineering in areas such as joint talent cultivation, faculty training, collaborative research projects, and student social practice, thereby promoting the high-quality development of the faculty.

The two sides also conducted in-depth discussions on topics including joint postdoctoral training, student mental health initiatives, and employment guidance for frontier and border regions. Both sides agreed to establish a regular communication mechanism to advance practical cooperation and ensure tangible results.
