On the morning of May 21, the unveiling ceremony and first management committee meeting of the Tsinghua University (State Key Laboratory of New-Type Power Systems)–Xinhuaidu Special Electric Co., Ltd. Joint Research Center for Solid-State Transformers were held at Tsinghua University.

Unveiling Ceremony of the Joint Research Center
Professor Zhang Bo, Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of New-Type Power Systems at Tsinghua University and Director of the Joint Research Center Management Committee, and Tan Yong, Chairman of Xinhuaidu Special Electric Co., Ltd., attended the ceremony and jointly unveiled the research center. Attendees also included Wang Hongzhi, General Manager of Xinhuaidu Special Electric Co., Ltd.; Wang Wei, Deputy General Manager; Cai Wanbing, R&D Director; Chen Xing, R&D Director; Deng Yu, Regional Sales Director; Zhan Bona, Securities Affairs Representative; Yu Zhanqing, Deputy Party Secretary of the Department of Electrical Engineering; and faculty representatives from the Department of Electrical Engineering and the State Key Laboratory, including Jiang Qirong, Zhang Chunpeng, Qu Lu, Cui Bin, Huang Qihuan, and Yang Zhe. The ceremony was chaired by Professor Cui Bin, Director of the Joint Research Center for Solid-State Transformers.
In his remarks, Yu Zhanqing stated that Xinhuaidu has been deeply engaged in the special transformer industry for forty years, adhering to its commitment to industrial development and maintaining a strong presence on the front lines of industry. He noted that the company has accumulated profound technical expertise, rich engineering experience, and broad market influence in the fields of transformers and reactors, making it an important force in advancing China’s transformer industry upgrading and supporting the construction of new-type power systems. He pointed out that as the global energy transition accelerates and the construction of new-type power systems gains momentum, emerging application scenarios such as AI data centers, renewable energy grid integration, and energy storage are generating urgent demand for solid-state transformers. Looking ahead, both sides will use the Joint Research Center as a bridge to break down barriers between scientific research and industry, closely integrating frontier laboratory exploration with enterprise engineering practice. This collaboration will not only support Xinhuaidu’s strategic transformation toward emerging fields such as new energy, energy storage, and high-end equipment, but also accelerate the industrialization of solid-state transformer technologies, injecting strong momentum into the development of China’s new-type power systems and the realization of the “dual carbon” goals.

Yu Zhanqing Delivers Remarks
In his remarks, Tan Yong stated that the cooperation represents far more than a symbolic “unveiling,” but rather a deep integration of industry, academia, research, and application. To ensure the successful implementation of the Joint Research Center projects, Xinhuaidu has made comprehensive preparations in areas including corporate strategy, organizational structure, talent development, and funding support. With the goal of “delivering results early, generating more achievements, and producing high-quality outcomes,” the company will rely on Tsinghua University’s top-tier research capabilities while leveraging Xinhuaidu’s extensive industrial application experience to tackle key technological challenges in the field of solid-state transformers and strive for breakthrough progress in this area. This collaboration will not only provide a solid technological foundation for Xinhuaidu’s expansion into emerging sectors such as new energy, energy storage, AI data centers, and high-end equipment, but will also contribute to the construction of China’s new-type power systems.

Tan Yong Delivers Remarks
Following the unveiling ceremony, Professor Cui Bin, Director of the Joint Research Center, chaired the first management committee meeting and systematically reported on the Center’s organizational structure, construction progress, and future cooperation plans. He stated that subsequent work will steadily advance around core technological breakthroughs and engineering prototype development for solid-state transformers, clarify annual R&D tasks and division of responsibilities, coordinate scientific research and experimental verification efforts, fully accelerate the commercialization of frontier technological achievements, and strive to establish a technologically mature and high-performance integrated R&D solution as soon as possible.
The establishment of the Joint Research Center marks a new starting point for cooperation between Tsinghua University and Xinhuaidu Special Electric Co., Ltd. Adhering to the principles of “friendly cooperation, mutual benefit, complementary advantages, and common development,” the two sides will fully leverage Tsinghua University’s technological research achievements in solid-state transformers together with Xinhuaidu’s strengths in technology development, commercialization, and application promotion, jointly integrate innovation resources, tackle key technological challenges, promote the commercialization of scientific achievements, and cultivate high-level scientific research talent in the field of solid-state transformers.
