On May 22, the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Management Committee for the Tsinghua University–TBEA Joint Special Program on the “Deep Integration of Industry, Academia and Research for Key Technologies in Energy and Power Equipment” was successfully convened at the West Main Building of Tsinghua University. The meeting focused on key fields including new-type power system operation and equipment, new materials, industrial intelligence, and green coal chemical engineering. Participants comprehensively reviewed the progress and achievements of the special program, discussed project advancement and management mechanisms, and outlined the next-stage blueprint for collaborative university-enterprise innovation.

Attendees from TBEA Group included Zhao Jing, Vice President of TBEA; Li Xiliang, Assistant General Manager of Xinte Energy Co., Ltd.; Wu Jinlong, Chief Engineer of TBEA Xi’an Flexible Power Transmission and Distribution Company; Chen Zonghui, Chief Engineer of Xi’an Electric Technology Company; and Cao Junzheng, Chief Technical Expert of the Central Research Institute of TBEA Technology Investment Company, along with other corporate leaders and technical experts. Representatives from Tsinghua University included Li Shuiqing, Deputy Director of the Office of Scientific Research; Kang Chongqing, Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering; Xie Xiaorong, Deputy Director of the Institute for Carbon Neutrality; and Professors Xiong Shoumei and Li Jianguo from the School of Materials Science and Engineering. The meeting was chaired by Sun Kai, Deputy Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University and Director of the Management Committee for the Special Program on the Deep Integration of Industry, Academia and Research for Key Technologies in Energy and Power Equipment.

In his opening remarks, Li Shuiqing stated that the jointly established special program has fully leveraged TBEA’s strengths as a leading enterprise in the energy equipment industry and Tsinghua University’s interdisciplinary research capabilities. He emphasized that the collaboration is of great significance for supporting innovation-driven development and technological advancement not only for the enterprise itself but also for the broader industry, and noted that the partnership has achieved strong momentum over the past two years. He expressed hope that both parties would further advance deep synergy in scientific and technological innovation through the industry-academia-research platform, continuously expand areas of cooperation, cultivate major achievements, and contribute greater strength to the high-quality development of China’s energy and power equipment industry and the enhancement of technological innovation capabilities in western China.

In his remarks, Kang Chongqing noted that through the joint efforts of both sides, all eight approved projects under the special program have achieved solid progress and important phased results, fully demonstrating the strong research capabilities enabled by efficient university-enterprise collaboration. He expressed his expectation that TBEA would further refine key industrial demands based on real-world application scenarios, work with more outstanding teams across Tsinghua’s departments and schools, strengthen organized scientific research, empower enterprise development and industrial upgrading through technological innovation, and support the construction of China’s new-type power systems and low-carbon energy transition.

Sun Kai presented a report on the implementation of the special program during 2025–2026, introducing the overall status of the eight approved projects as well as plans for four prospective collaborative projects in the next phase. Subsequently, project leaders and team representatives including Li Jianguo from the School of Materials Science and Engineering; Wang Jiliang from the School of Software; Jiang Guoqiang from the Department of Chemical Engineering; and Zi Zhenning, Wang Chao, and Li Meng from the Department of Electrical Engineering reported on the progress of collaborative research projects, including “Types, Formation Mechanisms, and Control Technologies of Inclusions in Ultra-Large 2xxx and 7xxx Series Aluminum Alloy Round Ingots,” “Research on Key Technologies for a New Industrial Intelligent Management System Integrating Communication, Sensing, and Intelligence,” “Integrated Technology for High-Value Utilization of Coal-Based Solid Waste Coupled with Carbon Dioxide Capture and Mineralization,” “Research on Key Technologies for Large-Scale Offshore Wind Power Full-DC Collection and Transmission Systems,” “Research on IGBT Thermal Resistance and Loss Models,” and “Research on Stability Control Technologies for Key Converter Equipment at New Energy Power Stations.”

During the discussion session on program implementation and management, project leaders from both the university and enterprise sides proposed constructive suggestions regarding demand refinement, project approval management, collaborative mechanisms, and commercialization of research outcomes. Representatives from various TBEA business divisions also expressed strong interest in deepening cooperation with Tsinghua University on technical challenges related to practical products and applications, including silicon-based new materials, flexible DC conversion systems, photovoltaic and energy-storage converters, and DC cables.

In his concluding remarks, Zhao Jing first expressed gratitude for Tsinghua University’s long-term support. He pointed out that the collaboration has initially established an innovation system featuring multidisciplinary integration and cross-industry cooperation, and that the projects already launched under the special program have strongly supported the Group’s technological iteration and industrial development. Looking toward the 15th Five-Year Plan period, TBEA will focus on areas including new-type power system equipment, aluminum- and magnesium-based advanced materials, coal chemical engineering, and artificial intelligence. The company looks forward to further strengthening collaborative research with Tsinghua University, accelerating the transformation of more research achievements from laboratories to production lines, jointly applying for major national science and technology projects, and together serving China’s national energy security strategy and the high-quality development of the industry.

The meeting further consolidated the university-enterprise integration mechanism, clarified key directions and implementation pathways for future joint research efforts, and injected strong momentum into breakthroughs in key technologies for energy and power equipment and the efficient commercialization of scientific achievements. It also laid a solid foundation for both sides to build benchmark models for the integration of industry, academia, research, and application in fields such as new-type power systems, advanced equipment, and green low-carbon development, while jointly fostering an innovation ecosystem for the energy industry.

Prior to the annual meeting of the Management Committee, technical experts from TBEA Group’s subsidiaries and branches held group discussions with relevant research teams from Tsinghua University. Tsinghua researchers introduced the latest progress and achievements in their respective fields, and both sides conducted in-depth discussions on future directions for cooperation.
