On the morning of September 3,the Term OpeningCeremonyfor Grade 2021 Undergraduates of Tsinghua University and also the Welcome Meeting for Grade2021Undergraduatesof the Department of Electrical Engineering were successfully held in the Lecture Hall 3-217 of the West Main Building. More than 90 freshmen attended thiswelcome meeting.Tsinghua University Admissions Office Director Chen Qixin, DepartmentDean Kang Chongqing, Party Committee Secretary Yu Xinjie, and other party and government joint committee members, party committee members, heads of research institutes, freshmen classhead teachers, representative counselors and administrative staff attended thewelcome meeting. Thewelcomemeeting waspresided over byLi Peiyang and Zhang Yuanxin, assistant counselors of Grade 2021 of the Department of Electrical Engineering.

At 9 a.m., thetermopening ceremony forGrade2021 undergraduates of Tsinghua University officially began.Students in the branch venue watched the opening ceremony and listened to the speeches ofPresidentQiu Yong, teacher representative Associate Professor Mei Ciqi, chairman of the students union Liu Zhizhen and freshmen representatives, and theyput on their badges ofTsinghua University.

At 10 o’clock in the morning, thewelcoming meeting forGrade2021 undergraduate freshmen of the Department of Electrical Engineering officially began. At the beginning of the meeting, the departmentdean Kang Chongqing delivered a speech. Mr. Kang first introduced thelong history and fine traditions of the Department of Electrical Engineering to the freshmen. Since the establishment of the Department, the Department of Electrical Engineering has cultivated a large number of academic masters, pillars of the country, and entrepreneurial talents, and made significant contributions to the country and society.Mr. Kang also introduced the “five institutes and one center” and “one department, two institutes” structure of the Department of Electrical Engineering, as well as the new opportunities and challenges that the Department of Electrical Engineering has faced in recent years. The Department of Electrical Engineering is actively exploringfor“carbon peak and carbon neutrality”, constructing a new power system with new energy as the mainstay, vigorously developing discipline construction and reform, andhasachievedmany gratifying achievements. In the end, Mr. Kang expressed ardent hopes for the freshmen who were new to Tsinghua University, and asked everyone to “make great ambitions and be virtuous”, uphold the department motto of "Strictin learning and right in being a man”, adapt to university life as soon as possible, successfully complete thetransition fromhigh school students to university students, comprehensively develop and free explore in TsinghuaUniversity,stand onChinaandtake a broad view inthe world,gain fruitful results in the Department of Electrical Engineering,make self-improvement andlaya foundation for a better life in the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Associate Professor Chen Qixin from the Institute of Electrical Power Systems, Department of Electrical Engineering, is not only the director of the admissions office of Tsinghua University, but alsoa fellow studentenrolled in 2001. Chen Qixin sent his blessings and exhortations to the students in three different identities. As the director of school admissions, Mr. Chen first expressed his heartfelt congratulations to every freshman and welcomed everyone to join the Department of Electrical Engineeringof Tsinghua University. As afellow student enrolled in 2001 anda teacher of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Mr. Chen suggested that students cheer for their success, and hope that they will become ordinary andextraordinary persons, independentbut not lonely, persistent and open-minded, befortunateand honorableto participate in history, and be awarein refreshing thehistory.

Afterwards, Professor Jiang Xiaohua,a head teacher of the freshmanEnergy Class12,made a speech.Ms Jiang believes that “innovation” is one of the most important tasks for Tsinghua University tocultivate students, and shares her thoughts about “innovation”.Sheexplained thepassion and mission of innovationwith vivid examples ofsenior fellows,andencouraged students to take on the mission of innovation, display their enthusiasm for innovation, shape their own innovation ability, abandon utilitarianism, and keep making progress.

Chen Jiaqi, chairman of students’ union anda student of Grade 2018 of the Department of Electrical Engineering made a speech onbehalf of thesenior students. He first welcomed the arrival of all thefreshmen, and then with his three years of growth experience, hediscussed the characteristics of pragmatic, simple anddaring to fight, that students of the Department of ElectricalEngineering should have, and encouraged thefreshmen to boldly choosea track and be down-to-earth in their careers. Finally, Chen Jiaqi introduced the sportsactivities of the Department of Electrical Engineering in particular, calling on the freshmen to devote themselves to sports, exercise their bodies and temper their character, and strive to work for the motherlandwith healthy bodiesfor 50 years at least.
