On September 2, the Department of Electrical Engineeringstarted to receive new studentsof Grade 2021.At 6 o’clock in the morning, volunteers moved thematerials to thereceptionpoint in Building C. At seven o’clock, thereception work was ready, and Luo Jiao, a teacher of the Department of Electrical Engineering, also came to thereceptionsite to answer questions for the freshmen in terms of subsidies for students in difficulties. Everyone is full of energy and looking forward to the arrival of new students.

Red arches and colorful flags on the main road, naive mascots of each department, clear and eye-catching signs, and the well-designed 2021 Tsinghua Freshmen Handbooks...are telling the mellow blessings and hopes in the autumn, and sending the warmest greetings to the newstudents to Tsinghua:“Welcome,Grade 2021 Students!"

For pandemic control,the freshmen, like those in thepreviousyear, weremostly unaccompanied by family membersbut came and complete the registration procedures alone. “Studentstothe Department of Electrical Engineering!” “This is the Department of Electrical Engineering!”Following the calls, Grade 2021 studentssuccessively came to thereception point and received their materials, excited and looking forward to the future life in the new campus.

Some activefreshmen who came to Tsinghua in advancealso participated in reception, Fu Yangyang and Ji Shiqi, head teachers ofclasses of Grade 2021,came to the registration point to welcome the arrival of the new students with the volunteers. With the joint efforts of everyone, the freshmen arerelaxed instepping into an unfamiliar environment, andexpecting for more tobe thenewhosts ofTsinghua University.

At noon, Mr. Yu Xinjie, secretary of the department party committee, and Mr. Zheng Zedong, deputy secretary of the department party committee, came to the registration point to inquire about the progress of thereception work and communicate with the volunteers in depth.

In the afternoon, PresidentQiu Yong,deputy secretaryGuo Yong, and director Bai Benfeng of the students’ office ofthe party committeeof Tsinghua University,came to thereception point of the Department of Electrical Engineeringandvisited the new students who came to register andgreeted the teachers and students who participated in thereception work.PresidentQiu asked about the registration of new students and the preparation forrelated work, and expressedhis appreciationto theteachers andcounselors who participatedin the preparation work.

In 2021, the Department of Electrical Engineering has admitted 94 undergraduates, including 79 males, 15 females, and 3 international students. The freshmen came from more than 80high schoolsin China, among them,6% were from western provinces, 18% fromrural and impoverished areas, and16% fromethnic minorities. The “post-2000s” are full of confidence and vigor, and will inject new vitality into Tsinghua in the new century.
