The Third IEEE Conference on Energy Internet and Energy System Integration (IEEE EI2 2019) was held in Changsha from November 8 to 10.

The IEEE EI2 was jointly founded by IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) and Tsinghua University in 2017. Mr. Sun Hongbin, professor of Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronic Technology (EEA) of Tsinghua University, served as the chair of the conference. The conference has been successfully held for two sessions and has attracted wide attention from the academic and industrial circles in the field of global energy. The first session received more than 900 academic papers from 26 countries and regions, and the second session received 1,140 academic papers from 21 countries and regions, with more than 1000 participants in both sessions. IEEE EI2 has become an important academic exchange platform in the field of international energy Internet.

The Conference, themed the Ubiquitous Energy Network Connected by All Things, was co-sponsored by IEEE PES, Tsinghua University and Changsha University of technology. The conference received nearly 900 contributions from 16 countries and regions and employed nearly 600. There were 190 authors presenting papers in 8 parallel sessions. The conference consists of 9 keynote reports and 25 panel sessions, with 160 experts making special keynote reports and a total of more than 800 participants.

The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Sun Hongbin, professor of Tsinghua University and chairman of IEEE EI虏. Cao Yijia, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of Changsha University of technology, Tang Yawu, deputy director general of the Department of education of Hunan Province, Lu Shujun, vice chairman of Chinese Society of Electrical Engineering (CSEE), He Xiqiang, deputy general manager of China Southern Power Grid Corporation, and Li Shengquan, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and general manager of State Grid Hunan Electric Power Co., Ltd., delivered welcome speeches respectively for the conference.

Later, IEEE PES Chairman and IEEE Life Fellow Saifur Rahman, NAE Member and IEEE Fellow Mohammad Shahidehpour, RAE (Royal Academy of Engineering) Fellow and IEEE fellow Tim Green, IEEE Life Fellow Kwang Y.Lee, CAE Academician and Global Energy Internet Research Institute President Tang Guangfu, General Manager Li Shengquan of State Grid Hunan Electric Power Co., Ltd., GM Li Peng of Southern Power Grid Digital Grid Research Institute Co., Ltd., Professor Sun Hongbin of Tsinghua University, and President Cao Yijia of Changsha University of technology, made keynote reports respectively for the conference.

There were 25 panel sessions and 20 paper sessions in the conference, including 15 special sessions (inclusive of 1 IEEE PES electrical women engineer session), 4 national key R & D program special sessions, and 6 IEEE energy Internet technology committee special sessions. Many teachers from the EEA of Tsinghua University attended the conference. In addition to the opening ceremony and keynote report, Prof. Sun Hongbin also presided over the working meeting of IEEE Energy Internet Technology Committee (China), attended the IEEE PES women electrical engineers session and delivered a speech. Professors Mei Shengwei and Xie Xiaorong, Associate Professors Lu Chao, Guo Qinglai and Chen Lei, respectively organized and presided over the panel sessions, Associate Prof. Chen Qixin presided over the paper session, and Prof. Mei Shengwei, Associate Professors Shen Yu, Chen Lei, Chen Qixin and Lin Jin respectively made the specially invited theme reports at the sessions.
