From November 11 to 14, the 4th IEEE Workshop on the Electronic Grid (eGrid2019), initiated by IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) and Power & Energy Society (PES) and co-sponsored by Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronic Technology (EEA) of Tsinghua University, Global Energy Internet Research Institute Co., Ltd. and State Grid Fujian Electric Power Co., Ltd., was successfully held in Xiamen International Convention Center. The State Key Laboratory of Control and Simulation of Power System and Power Generation Equipments and the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Transmission Technology participated in the workshop. In recent years, the power electronic technology in power system has changed from simple flexible transmission and renewable energy access to one of the key basic technologies of strong smart grid and ubiquitous power Internet of things, which plays an indispensable role in the whole chain of power generation, transmission, distribution and consumption. The workshop aims to provide an international exchange platform for research and development personnel in the fields of power electronics and power system, and promote the integration and upgrading of power system and power electronics.

The workshop was co-chaired by Zhao Zhengming, professor of the EEA, Tsinghua University, and Tang Guangfu, president of Global Energy Internet Research Institute. Focusing on the theme of "Power Electronic Grid", the workshop has six panel sessions, one Summary Session, two e-posters and four tutorials. More than 260 experts, scholars, engineering technicians and graduate students from international academic organizations, universities, scientific research institutes and power enterprises attended the workshop. At the meeting, more than 20 domestic and foreign high-level experts and scholars, including CAE academicians and NAE members, chairman and vice chairmen of IEEE PELS and many IEEE fellows, attended the meeting and made reports. The opening ceremony was presided over by Tang Guangfu, co-chair of the meeting and president of the Global Energy Internet Research Institute. Prof. Xiao Xi, co-chair of the Technical Procedures Committee and deputy director of the EEA of Tsinghua University, introduced the workshop on behalf of the sponsors.

The workshop invited 18 experts from home and abroad to make keynote reports, which were divided into six thematic discussions, covering "Future Grid", "HVDC System and DC Grid" and "Application of Power Electronics Technology in Power System". CAE Academia Zheng Jianchao, NAE member Dushan Boroyevich, national distinguished expert Yuan Xiaoming, Vahan Gevorgian, chief expert of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory of the United States and other well-known experts in the field of electric power chaired six panel sessions respectively. 18 experts, including Tang Guangfu, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and co-chairman of eGrid2019 workshop, Zhao Zhengming, professor of Tsinghua University, Don Tan, chairman of IEEE eGrid Steering Committee, Fred Blaabjerg, chairman of IEEE PELS, Liuchen Chang, vice chairman of IEEE PELS, Yuan Xiaoming, professor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Liu Jinjun, professor of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Sheng Kuang, professor of Zhejiang University, Jian Sun, professor of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Prof. Fred Wang, the University of Tennessee, Dr. Magnus Callavik of ABB and Dr. Jochen Jung of Tennet, made wonderful technical reports.

The summary discussion and closing ceremony of the Workshop were co-chaired by Prof. Zhao Zhengming of Tsinghua University, co-chairman of eGrid2019, and Dr Don Tan, chairman of IEEE eGrid2019 Steering Committee. The moderators of the six panel sessions summarized the main points and discussion hot spots of expert keynote reports. The experts and representatives present at the meeting had a warm exchange on relevant issues and gave constructive suggestions for the development of future electronizing power grids. On the morning of November 14, experts and representatives attended the meeting to visit the converter station of 卤 320kv/1000MW Xiamen flexible DC transmission project.

As one of the sponsors of eGrid2019, the EEA of Tsinghua University participated in the preparation and organization of the eGrid2019 from May 2018. Prof. Zhao Zhengming served as the co-chair of the meeting, Prof. Xiao Xi was the chair of the Technical Procedure Committee, and associate Prof. Sun Kai was the chair of the Organizational Committee. Compared with the previous three workshops, the number of participants in this eGrid2019 workshop has reached a new high, and the successful and thoughtful organization work has been highly praised by the guests and representatives at home and abroad.
