On May 30, the Tsinghua EEA’s “Shenzhen Visit” series of activities—the Fourth “AI + Energy” Alumni Forum and Nanguo Tsinghua Public Welfare Roadshow Special Session—was successfully held in Shenzhen. The forum was hosted by the EEA (Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics) Branch of the Tsinghua Alumni Association, and co-organized by the EEA Branch and the Finance and Investment Branch of the Shenzhen Tsinghua University Alumni Association. Centered on frontier topics in the deep integration of artificial intelligence and energy, the event brought together more than one hundred alumni and industry experts from universities, enterprises, and research institutions to discuss new pathways for industry–academia–research collaboration and industrial implementation. The meeting was chaired by Pang Qingguo, Deputy Secretary-General of the Electrical Engineering Branch of the Tsinghua Alumni Association.

In his remarks, Jiang Yuyang, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress and Chairman of the Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology, stated that the global energy landscape is undergoing profound transformation, the “dual carbon” strategy is steadily advancing, and the construction of new power systems is accelerating. He noted that the core logic of industry development has shifted from the traditional goals of “ensuring power supply and stability” to a new stage characterized by green transformation, intelligent upgrading, efficient energy storage, and flexible dispatching. Among these, the deep integration of AI technologies with energy storage and power systems is becoming a key lever driving industry transformation and supporting future power development. He emphasized that energy storage serves as the “power bank” and “stabilizer” of the new power system, while the integration of artificial intelligence will enable more stable power supply, higher energy efficiency, and more intelligent grid operation. He encouraged alumni to remain rooted in frontline power research and engineering practice, to stay at the technological frontier, and to contribute to the upgrading of the industry through collective alumni strength, thereby supporting the high-quality development of China’s energy and power sector.

Wu Xiaofeng, Vice President of the Shenzhen Tsinghua University Alumni Association, officially announced the successful launch of the “AI + Energy Integration” themed alumni event. He stated that the core objective of this event is to facilitate complementary collaboration between alumni resources in the fields of AI and energy, promote the implementation of industry–academia–research cooperation, and contribute Tsinghua’s strength to energy transformation and intelligent development in the Greater Bay Area and across China.

Professor Kang Chongqing, Director of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University and President of the EEA Branch of the Tsinghua Alumni Association, introduced in his speech that in response to the “Strong Foundation Program,” Tsinghua University has vigorously implemented the residential college system. The Department of Electrical Engineering has established a dual-track system of “colleges for general education and departments for specialized training,” centered on a “grand energy perspective.” At the same time, the University has launched an “AI+ interdisciplinary training program” and established the School of Artificial Intelligence, aiming to cultivate interdisciplinary talent who understand both energy systems and artificial intelligence. He expressed hope that, leveraging alumni resources, scientific research achievements could be first implemented in Shenzhen, and that deeper collaboration with alumni enterprises would be achieved.

Finally, Mr. Gu Liji, former Chairman of Shenzhen China Merchants Science & Technology Group and a senior alumnus, shared his experience of working in Shenzhen and engaging in venture capital investment. He reflected that only when technology is implemented and serves industry does it gain lasting vitality. He offered advice to younger alumni: to maintain a “50-year career in good health,” to pursue both technological development and personal well-being, and to grow together with the industry over the long term.

During the thematic sharing session, multiple industry experts and alumni representatives delivered insightful reports focusing on key topics such as new power systems, AI–electricity computing coordination, offshore wind power optimization, and global energy storage development.
Chen Zhengjian, Deputy General Manager of the Science and Technology Innovation Department of Shenzhen Energy Group, delivered a presentation titled “Technological Innovation Practices of Energy Enterprises in New Power Systems.” He systematically introduced Shenzhen Energy’s “four-core, two-region” business layout, the implementation of AI in microgrids and hydrogen energy demonstration projects, and shared practical experience in developing intelligent collaborative products based on a “large model + small model + database” architecture.

Li Haiping, Chairman of Eaton Power (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., delivered a report titled “From Power Grid to Chips—The Reconstruction of Power Supply Systems for AI Computing Centers.” He analyzed the impact of the explosive growth of AI computing power on power supply systems and introduced Eaton’s frontier technological layout in areas such as energy routers and bidirectional energy-storage UPS systems, as well as its global expansion strategy.

Wang Kang, Deputy General Manager of Huacai Energy Co., Ltd. and General Manager of Inner Mongolia Green Hydrogen Technology Co., Ltd., shared insights on “Safety, Green Development, and Economy—Key Issues in Computing–Power Synergy.” He provided an in-depth analysis of critical breakthrough directions such as green electricity direct supply policies, economic feasibility boundaries, and flexible regulation of computing power.

Associate Professor Shen Xinwei, Head of the Student Affairs Office at the Shenzhen International Graduate School of Tsinghua University, delivered a report titled “Preliminary Exploration of Combinatorial Optimization Techniques and Applications for Large-Scale Offshore Wind Power Planning.” He shared the team’s research achievements in offshore wind power LCOE optimization, two-stage planning methods, and engineering implementation, demonstrating the translation of academic research into industrial applications.

He Shaoqiang, Chairman of Yilanke, presented a report titled “Global Application and Iteration of Industrial and Commercial Energy Storage PCS.” Based on market characteristics in China, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, he analyzed differentiated adaptation pathways for energy storage converters and opportunities for Chinese technologies in global markets.

This forum was not only a deep dialogue between academia and industry, but also an important platform for the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University to advance the interdisciplinary integration of “AI + Energy” and accelerate the transformation of scientific research achievements. The Department is comprehensively advancing the “Ziqiang College” system and the “AI+ interdisciplinary training program,” leveraging the industrial advantages of Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area to promote alumni resource integration and technological commercialization. On May 31, some participants visited Shenzhen Basic Semiconductor Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen Shenzhen Energy Southern Ecological Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. Through this field visit, participants gained an in-depth understanding of innovative applications of artificial intelligence in energy and power systems, intelligent manufacturing, and robotics, and experienced first-hand the latest achievements in industry–academia–research integration, providing valuable opportunities for industry exchange and collaboration.
