Recently, the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS) selected five recipients worldwide for the 2024 IEEE DEIS Graduate Fellowship. Each awardee will receive a scholarship of USD 5,000. Among this year's winners is Li Junluo, a doctoral student from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) at Tsinghua University.

The IEEE DEIS Graduate Fellowship, established by the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society, aims to support graduate students conducting research in the fields of electrical insulation and dielectric environments. Eligible research topics include dielectric materials, dielectric properties and breakdown, charge transport, and high-voltage effects, among others. The fellowship is awarded based on the innovation of the research topic, its potential impact, and the recipient’s ability to achieve their research objectives. The selection is made through discussions among members of the DEIS Education Committee.

Li Junluo’s award-winning project, titled “Enhancing the Insulation Properties of Polymer Dielectrics through Conformation Regulation”, is supervised by Associate Professor Li Qi. The project aims to explore the relationship between polymer conformations and charge transport properties in dielectric materials. By regulating polymer conformations, the research seeks to develop novel dielectric materials with high breakdown strength and low leakage current. This study provides an innovative approach to improving the insulation performance of polymer dielectrics and opens new avenues for the design and application of high-performance insulation materials.
This marks another significant recognition for Li Junluo, following his receipt of the 2024 Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Postgraduate Research Award.
