On November 7, the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) announced the public notice regarding the candidates for the 18th China Youth Science and Technology Award. After evaluation, a total of 99 individuals were selected as candidates for the 18th China Youth Science and Technology Award, among them Zhang Pinjia, a tenured associate professor from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) at Tsinghua University.

About the China Youth Science and Technology Award:

The China Youth Science and Technology Award is jointly established and organized by the Central Organization Department, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and CAST. It is aimed at young scientific and technological workers nationwide. The award seeks to cultivate a group of young leaders in academia and technology at the forefront of global science and technology. It recognizes and rewards outstanding young scientific talents who have made significant achievements in national economic development, social progress, and technological innovation. It also aims to inspire young scientific workers to contribute to building a well-off society and accelerate the process of socialist modernization.

Zhang Pinjia

Biography: Zhang Pinjia is currently a tenured associate professor in EEA at Tsinghua University, a doctoral advisor, and a recipient of the National Distinguished Young Scholar award. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in EEA from Tsinghua University in 2006, and then pursued his doctoral studies at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the United States, where he received his PhD in 2010. After graduation, he worked at the headquarters of GE Global Research as a senior engineer and project manager. In 2015, he returned to China as a special researcher at Tsinghua University and was later appointed as an associate professor in EEA, where he now serves as the department's deputy director. His research focuses on the reliability of large-capacity power electronics and electrical equipment, with a particular emphasis on online monitoring and health management of electrical equipment. He has led multiple projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Key R&D Program. Zhang has received several awards, including the IEEE Industrial Applications Society Young Engineer Achievement Award, the China Electrotechnical Society Science and Technology Progress First Prize, and the Geneva International Invention Gold Medal. He has published over 100 academic papers and holds 70 authorized invention patents.
