Recently, the Patent Protection Association of China announced the results of the 2024 Green Technology Innovation Case selection. After a process of self-declaration, comprehensive review, and public notice, the "Active Synchronization Support and Coordinated Control System for High-Proportion Renewable Energy Grids," developed by the Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as the Institute), was successfully selected.
Selection Results
Introduction to the Selected Achievement:
The innovative achievement "Active Synchronization Support and Coordinated Control System for High-Proportion Renewable Energy Grids," led by Professor Zongxiang Lu, a tenured professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) at Tsinghua University and Director of the Institute's New Energy Power System Analysis and Optimization Research Office, addresses the challenge of quantifying system active, reactive, and damping support requirements. The system establishes an assessment model for frequency-voltage-damping active support demands aimed at ensuring the safe and stable operation of the grid. The model integrates full-trajectory frequency optimization, multi-modal dynamic voltage support, and sub-synchronous oscillation suppression. It proposes methods to enhance the active support capabilities of wind farms, creating continuous fault ride-through control technologies that synergize wind turbine Virtual Synchronous Generators (VSG) with flexible HVDC (VSC) systems. This system significantly enhances the grid's active synchronization capabilities in terms of frequency, voltage, and damping, achieving optimal economic and reliable operation of the renewable energy-powered grid through coordinated optimization.
