On November 16, 2024, the 6th Energy Internet International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Summit (EIIES) and the 2024 World Electrical Engineering Technology and Development Forum (WEETDF) were successfully held in Chengdu. This event was guided by Tsinghua University and the China-EU Energy Technology Innovation Cooperation Office, organized by the China Electrical Engineering Society, Tsinghua University Domestic Cooperation Office, Sichuan Tianfu New District New Economy Bureau, Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) of Tsinghua University, Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, and hosted by the Energy Internet International Innovation Center.

The event, themed "Developing New Energy Productivity in Energy Sector Accelerating Global Energy Carbon Neutrality," brought together over 400 local government leaders, energy experts, scholars from universities and research institutes, industry leaders, and representatives from financial investment institutions to jointly discuss global energy transformation and build a clean and beautiful world. Nearly 10,000 people attended via online live broadcast. The opening ceremony was hosted by Professor Kang Chongqing, Dean of EEA and President of the Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute.
In his speech, Deng Chao, a member of the Party Group and Director of the Sichuan Provincial Development and Reform Commission, introduced the achievements of Sichuan’s energy sector in recent years. He stated that Sichuan, as a strategic hub for China’s development, will continue optimizing its energy structure, accelerating the construction of large-scale HVDC transmission projects, and fostering the development of new energy productive forces to further ensure national energy security and promote a green transformation of economic and social development. He expressed hope that experts and scholars would spark ideas and offer insights to seize cooperation opportunities and provide advice and guidance for Sichuan's energy sector.

Han Jingyang, Vice President of the Tsinghua Alumni Association, in his speech, stated that Tsinghua University, as a key pioneer in China's energy science and technology sector and talent cultivation base, has always regarded serving the country’s major strategic goals as its mission. The university will continue to leverage its strengths to take on more responsibilities in the national energy transition, contributing more to the cause. He encouraged the experts, leaders, and guests to actively share research results and practical experiences, providing more opportunities and possibilities for deepening cooperation, and to propose practical solutions for China’s energy green and low-carbon transition.

Han Yi, Secretary-General of the China Electrotechnical Society, said in his speech that the electrical engineering discipline is an indispensable key field in today’s high-tech industries and plays an irreplaceable role in achieving the “dual carbon” goals. As a national-level scientific and technological organization, the CES will continue to unite all its members and electrical engineering experts to collaboratively plan the construction of a new electrified society, leading the high-quality development of electrical engineering and related fields.

During the signing and release session, Liu Yi, Vice President of the Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, released an industry cooperation plan on the theme "Deep Integration of Technological and Industrial Innovation to Promote New Productive Forces." The plan aims to actively serve the development needs of leading enterprises and accelerate the development of new energy productive forces by empowering industrial development with technological innovation. The Institute signed cooperation agreements with Powerchina Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited (Hdec), China Three Gorges Wuhan Science and Technology Innovation Park, and Sichuan AAA Development Group, further strengthening the integration of industry, academia, research, and application to jointly promote high-quality green and low-carbon industrial development.

At the conference, five experts shared their latest research findings from their respective fields, presenting an academic feast with high-end, cutting-edge, and professional insights, offering important enlightenment to attendees.
IEEE Fellow and Chair Professor at the University of Seville’s Department of Electrical Engineering, Antonio Gomez-Exposito, delivered a special report titled "Can Distributed PV Become the Backbone of Power Systems?", presenting the latest international research findings on power system analysis and renewable energy integration.

Following this, IEEE Fellow and Professor Qu Ronghai from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Director of the Chengdu Customs Technology Center Dong Wei, Dean of the College of Electrical Engineering at Sichuan University Xiao Xianyong, and Executive Vice President of the Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute Lu Zongxiang each delivered keynote reports on topics such as "Opportunities and Challenges for Motor Systems in Aircraft Electrification and Low-altitude Economy", "Challenges and Opportunities in International Green Trade under the New Global Trends", "Thoughts on Large Models of Power Disturbances in Distribution Systems", and "Initial Exploration of Technical Paths for Building New Regional Power Systems under Climate Change", interpreting new trends and systems in the current energy and power sectors.

To further promote global academic exchange and cooperation, Tsinghua University hosted the open-access international academic journal iEnergy, appointing Professor Antonio Gomez-Exposito as an advisory board member, and Professors Qu Ronghai from Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Ding Liming from the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology as associate editors. These forums created a dialogue platform for open sharing and collaborative innovation, deeply discussing the opportunities, challenges, and future potential of the energy sector under the "dual carbon" goals.

In the nearly 30 thematic reports at the forums, academicians, experts, and industry leaders from different fields shared their cutting-edge achievements, unique insights, and practical experiences, covering multiple dimensions such as technological innovation, policy analysis, and market trends. They also proposed targeted solutions and feasible suggestions, further inspiring innovative thinking and cooperation enthusiasm among attendees.
This conference marked the first joint hosting of the Energy Internet International Innovation Summit and the World Electrical Engineering Science and Development Symposium. It fully leveraged the synergistic effects of technological innovation and market configuration, aligning with the spirit of the 20th CPC Central Committee’s Third Plenary Session and President Xi Jinping’s important directives on energy development. It showcased China’s frontier achievements in energy internet and electrical engineering, contributing solid strength to the development of new energy productive forces and the global energy transition.
