On October 13, the Chinese Power Supply Society announced its latest list of Fellows. Professor Li Yongdong from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) was granted the title of Fellow of the Chinese Power Supply Society in recognition of his technical contributions to "high-power, high-voltage, multi-level converter technology research and applications" in the electrical field.
Li Yongdong
Professor Li Yongdong is the leader of the Advanced Power Conversion and Electrified Transportation team at EEA. He serves as the Vice Chairman of the China Power Electronics Society, Chairman of the Electrified Transportation Committee of the Chinese Power Supply Society, Fellow of the Chinese Electrotechnical Society, Vice Chairman of the Electric Control Devices and Systems Committee, Vice Chairman of the Electrical Automation Committee of the Chinese Automation Society, Chairman of the IEEE IAS Beijing Section, and Fellow of the IET (Institute of Engineering and Technology, UK). He has been engaged in research on high-performance, large-capacity, fully digitalized AC motor control systems for many years, particularly in the areas of direct torque control theory for AC motors and its digital implementation, achieving world-leading results. The technologies developed under his leadership, including sensorless vector control and high-voltage, large-capacity asynchronous motor variable frequency drives, have already been industrialized.
The Chinese Power Supply Society, established in 1983, is a national-level social organization registered with the Ministry of Civil Affairs. Since 2022, according to the "Regulations for the Selection of Fellows of the Chinese Power Supply Society," Fellows are nominated by the Society’s Fellows Nomination Committee, reviewed by the Society’s Board of Directors, and approved by the Executive Council. Fellows are selected once a year, with the number of new Fellows not exceeding 1% of the total individual membership of the Society. The total number of Fellows is also limited to 1% of the total individual membership. The title of Fellow is the highest honor given to members of the Chinese Power Supply Society and is a lifelong honorary title. Academician Han Yingduo from EEA was selected as a Fellow in the first group in 2022, and Professor Zhao Zhengming from EEA was selected in the second group in 2023.
