From June 25 to 29, the International Pulsed Power Conference was held in San Antonio, USA. During this event, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) announced the results of several award selections. Sun Hao, a student graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) at Tsinghua University in 2023, was honored with both the NPSS Robert J Barker Graduate Student Award presented by the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS), and the Arthur H. Guenther Pulsed Power Student Award presented by the IEEE Pulsed Power Science and Technology Committee (PPST).
The NPSS Robert J Barker Graduate Student Award, established by the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society in recent years, aims to recognize outstanding graduate students in the fields of nuclear science, plasma science, pulsed power applications, and compact pulsed power research and applications. Sun Hao is the first recipient of this award from a Chinese research institution.

The IEEE Arthur H. Guenther Pulsed Power Student Award, initiated by the IEEE Pulsed Power Science and Technology Committee (PPST) in 1981 and later renamed in honor of Arthur H. Guenther, aims to acknowledge students’ exceptional contributions to pulsed power engineering, science, or technology. This award, which has been conferred annually, is bestowed upon no more than one awardee each year, and the award ceremony takes place biennially at the IEEE International Pulsed Power Conference. Sun Hao is the first recipient of this award from a Chinese research institution.
