Recently, the official website of the Ministry of Education announced the winners of the 2022 National Teaching Achievement Award for Higher Education (Undergraduate). The teaching achievement of “Online and offline mixed, multiple modes applied and collaborative education to improve quality — Comprehensive teaching reform of the course of Circuit Principle” won the second prize (completed by: Yu Xinjie, Zhu Guiping, Zhao Wei, Huang Songling, Ding Qingqing, Yang Ying, Liu Yingyan and Xie Xiaorong).
The achievement summarizes the in-depth thinking and solutions of the Circuit Principle teaching group on the teaching of the Circuit Principle course since 2013. Starting from three questions, it proposes and practices a series of 3 interlocking methods from resource construction to model exploration and further to education and quality improvement, opening up a new path for the core curriculum to realize moral education in the new era.
The three questions are: The background of the era of mobile interconnection has posed new challenges for universities to realize the fundamental task for moral education, how to provide high quality learning resources for students in the increasing proliferation of information? How to fully apply digital resources to enhance learning effectiveness and meet diverse learning needs? How to go beyond the property of knowledge transmission in the classroom and carry out the more important value shaping and ability cultivation of moral education in the core curriculum? These 3 questions are progressive, small in opening but deep in depth, and concern the whole situation of higher education, and it urgently requires higher education practitioners to summarize new methods and explore new paths.
The teaching group on Circuit Principle has proposed and practiced a series of proven solutions:
(1) Open the first MOOC Circuit Principle in engineering in China. In October 2013, the teaching group established the first MOOC course of Circuit Principle with Chinese characteristics at Tsinghua level, and put it on two online platforms, Xuetang Online and edX, creating a ""path of division and integration” in the construction of high-quality MOOCs.
(2) Rationally use self-established MOOC resources, rain classroom tools and hybrid teaching means, design and realize three hybrid teaching modes: enhanced version, interactive version and simple version, to land MOOC, a high-quality online education resource in the physical classroom, which can improve teaching effect, meet students’ diversified learning needs, and accomplish the “path of win-win” between course quality and diversified learning.
(3) Further amplify the advantages of hybrid teaching mode, mix it with ideology and politics teaching, and reveal the “3-in-1” path of “value shaping, ability cultivation and knowledge transmission”.
The above measures and achievement of the teaching group of Tsinghua University have led the trend of circuit principle course reform in China’s colleges and universities, created a “flag” effect and a very good demonstration in the national college course reform. The course was granted the honors of “national high-quality resource sharing course” (2015), “national high-quality online open course” (2018), “national first-class undergraduate course (online first-class course)” (2020), “national ideology and politics teaching demonstration course” (2021) and “national virtual teaching and research room” (2021), etc (all were obtained in the first batch). The teaching team was granted the honor of “Excellent Undergraduate Education Team of Universities in Beijing” (2019) and “National Ideology and Politics Teaching Team” (2021) in the first batch. The relevant teaching achievement won the “First Prize of Beijing Teaching Achievement” twice (2018 and 2022), and finally won the second prize of the national teaching achievement award.
