On October 31, 2021, Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, as the project base for Ph.D. of Engineering in leading innovationof Tsinghua University, successfully held the4th EngineeringDoctoralForum of the Department of Electrical Engineeringand Applied Electronicsof Tsinghua University. The forum was conducted in an online-offlinecombined form.Kang Chongqing, dean of the Department of Electrical Engineeringand Applied ElectronicsandPresidentof Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, 6 mentorsincludingZhao Zhengming, Lu Zongxiang, Zhang Guixin, Dong Xinzhou, Liu Weidong, Gao Wensheng, and 27Ph.D. of Engineering participate in the forum.Gao Wensheng, the responsible professorforPh.D. of Engineering in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics, presided over the forum.

Kang Chongqing,Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics,Presidentof Energy Internet Innovation Research Institute, andPresidentof Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, said in his speech that the regularly heldEngineeringDoctoralForum is an important platform to promote the display of engineering doctoral achievements and academic exchanges, which will help supervisorsstrengthen theirguidance for thedissertationof Ph.D. of Engineeringand improve the quality ofcultivation of Ph.D. of Engineering. Mr. Kang emphasized thatthe Ph.D. of Engineeringshould accuratelyclarify the development orientationsof the country, pay attention to engineering technology innovation and solve engineering technical problems, andheencouraged them to complete their dissertationsfor Ph.D. of Engineering in high standard and high quality.

Kang Chongqing delivered a speech

Lu Zongxiang, executive vice president of Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute andSupervisor ofPh.D. of Engineeringof the Department of Electrical Engineeringand Applied Electronics,gave a keynote reporttitled“Analysis of Development Trend of New Power SystemsLed by New Energies towards theDual-Carbon Target”. He pointed out that it is the consensus of all mankind to explore a clean, green and low-carbon development path, andheintroduced the futureand major research orientations ofnew power systems in three parts: “high proportion renewable energy”, “main body status definition of new energies”, and “high flexibility planning and operation”.

Subsequently, Lin Yunzhi, aPh.D. of Engineering admitted in 2018,Qi Tengyun, aPh.D. of Engineering admitted in 2019,Liu Haitao, aPh.D. of Engineering admitted in 2019, Yang Yuemin, aPh.D. of Engineering admitted in 2020, and Xiao Wei, aPh.D. of Engineering admitted in 2020,gave special reports on five major segments of the engineering field:flexible traction power supplysystemsfor rail transit, optimized configuration of wind farm supporting energy storage power stations for multiple application scenarios, key technology and system integration of low- and medium-voltage DC distribution operation control, DC system smart industrial park construction based on source-grid-load-storage coordination,andnew rural power grid development trend and zero-carbonisland power system planning. Theyraised major engineering issues anddemands forinnovative technology research, and shared their researchachievements.

During the report session, the students discussed and exchangedtheir ideas deeply, andthe participating supervisors commented on the research progress of thePh.D. of Engineeringone by one, and put forward specific guidance and suggestions for the next step of research and practice.

The holding of this forum provides a valuable opportunity for exchanges among doctoral students in innovation-leading engineering. The students at theforum expressed that they have gained a lot, and theyare inspired for refining major common problems,expandingcross-disciplinaryintegration, organizingengineering innovation in future research work.

TheEngineering Doctoral Forum of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics is a regularacademic exchange platform for teachers and students. It encourages students to showcase their achievements, stimulate innovative thinking, and promote project cooperation. Since December 2020, the Department of Electrical Engineeringand Applied Electronicshas held three ofEngineeringDoctoralForums in Beijing, Changzhou, and Qingdao. The fourthforumwas held online due to theCOVID-19.
