On April 3, 2021, the Establishment Meeting of the Electrical and Power Electronics Group of the Youth Working Committee of the China Electrotechnical Society and the 12th Youth Salon were successfully held in Beijing. This meeting is hosted by the Chinese Electrotechnical Society and undertaken by the Youth Working Committee of the Chinese Electrotechnical Society, the State Key Laboratory of Power System and Large Power Generation Equipment Safety Control and Simulation of Tsinghua University, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics of Tsinghua University, and the School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering School of Beihang University. More than 100 experts and young scholars from universities, research institutes and enterprises attended the meeting.

At the establishment ceremony, Han Yi, Secretary General of the China Electrotechnical Society, and Ding Lijian, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Electrotechnical Society, Director of the Youth Working Committee of the China Electrotechnical Society, and Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering of Hefei University of Technology delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the host. Yu Xinjie, Secretary of the CPC Committee of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics, Tsinghua University, and Lv Jinhu, Dean of the School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering, Beihang University, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the host.

Deputy Secretary-General Yan Zhuo announced the appointment decision of the Electrical and Power Electronics Group. Secretary-General Han Yi and Director Ding Lijian awarded Academician Gu Guobiao a letter of appointment as a consultant to the Youth Working Committee. Secretary-General Han Yi, Director Ding Lijian, and Deputy Secretary-General Yan Zhuo awarded letters of appointment to the Executive Committee of the Electrical and Power Electronics Group.

Academician Gu Guobiao, combining his own scientific research experience for more than half a century and taking knowledge innovation engineering as a starting point, reviewed the development history of the electrical engineering discipline, and taking the application of evaporative cooling technology in the Three Gorges project as a case, he encouraged young experts to set scientific research goals and carry out scientific research through, and he hope they can strengthen their beliefs to constantly explore, overcome difficulties, endure loneliness, and suffer bitterness.

Zhang Pinjia made a speech

The 12th Youth Salon was chaired by Researcher Zhang Pinjia of Tsinghua University and Associate Professor Ding Xiaofeng of Beihang University. The meeting mainly focused on key issues such as special motor design and drive control, new power electronic devices and converter topology. The salon was composed of meeting reports, youth academic reports and youth academic seminars.

Well-known experts in the industry, including Professor Li Liyi of Harbin Institute of Technology, Professor Qu Ronghai of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Professor Ruan Xinbo of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Professor Liu Jinjun of Xi’an Jiaotong University and Professor Zhao Zhengming of Tsinghua University were invited to give wonderful reports.

Professor Huawei of Southeast University, Professor Li Wuhua of Zhejiang University, Professor Zhang Zhuoran of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Professor Tu Chunming of Hunan University conducted in-depth and warm exchanges with young scholars from all over the country on problems encountered in scientific research and life during the growth of young people.

This meeting discussed the latest research progress, current technical bottlenecks and challenges in this field, strengthened academic exchanges among young scholars in electrical machinery, power electronics, and other disciplines, and enhanced the intersection and integration of related disciplines. The establishment of the Electrical and Power Electronics Group of the Youth Working Committee of the China Electrotechnical Society has provided a stage for ideological collision and cross-innovation to further promote the development of high-performance special motors and advanced power electronic technologies, which has been fully affirmed by the participating scholars.
