From September 7 to 10, 2020, Tsinghua University held the 7th International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Applications (ICHVE2020) online. Conference organizers include IEEE Dielectric and Insulation Committee, State Key Laboratory of Power System and Generation Equipment Control and Simulation, Chongqing University, Mississippi State University, Energy Internet Innovation Research Institute of Tsinghua University, Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute of Tsinghua University. IEEE fellow Professor He Jinliang from EEA of Tsinghua University chaired the conference, Professor Zhang Bo chaired the organizing committee of the conference, and Professor Zeng Rong chaired the International Science Committee and the Technical Procedure Committee. At the meeting, 52 famous experts and scholars from 28 countries around the world were invited as members of the International Science Committee, 35 famous Chinese scholars as members of the Chinese Science Committee, and 32 young and middle-aged scholars as members of the Technical Procedure Committee. A total of 1132 contributions were received at the meeting, and after strict evaluation, 683 papers were exchanged at the conference, and 23 famous scholars were invited to make reports at the conference. Topics of the conference cover advanced materials and insulation, intelligent sensing, monitoring, diagnosis and maintenance, overvoltage and grounding protection, electromagnetic transient and electromagnetic compatibility, high voltage numerical calculation, high voltage testing technology, high voltage DC technology and applications, high voltage systems and industrial applications. The conference lasts 4 days, including the opening ceremony and the keynote report, 52 oral presentation meetings, 13 open forum exchange sessions and the closing ceremony, with rich contents and various forms, and has attracted more than 700 researchers, university teachers and students, engineers and technicians from home and abroad to register and participate.
On the morning of September 7, more than 5,300 experts, scholars and graduate students from all over the world attended the opening ceremony of the conference online through Zoom online meeting and live broadcast platforms such as Weibo and bilibili. Professor He Jinliang, chairman of the conference, and Mr. Paul C Gaberson, chairman of the IEEE Dielectric and Insulation Committee, delivered speeches respectively. Professor Masoud Farzaneh, chairman of the ICHVE Award Committee, announced the name list of 2020 IEEE Caixin Sun and Stan Grzybowski Awards, Professor Jiang Xingliang from Chongqing University won the Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Li Chuanyang of from the University of Connecticut, who graduated from EEA of Tsinghua University in 2018, won the Young Scholar Achievement Award, and the two award winner delivered award winning speeches respectively. During the keynote presentation session, Academician Xue Yusheng from the State Grid Electric Power Research Institute, Professor Yuriy Serdyuk from Chalmers Technical University of Sweden, and Professor Wang Qing from Pennsylvania State University made keynote reports on energy transformation requiring cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary engineering support, simulation of charge transport in insulating materials and related electric fields, and dielectric polymer materials in high temperature and high electric fields, respectively.
After rigorous evaluation, the conference selected 10 excellent students' theses and granted the 2020 IEEE Caixin Sun and Stan Grzybowski Awards for Outstanding Students' Theses, the name list of winners were announced at the closing ceremony held on the afternoon of September 10, and 553 scholars and researchers from all over the world attended the closing ceremony. The 8th International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application (ICHVE 2022) will be held in Cape Town, South Africa in 2022.
