On the afternoon of July 13, the opening ceremony of the 2020 China-Italy Advanced Manufacturing Summer School was jointly held online by EEA of Tsinghua University, the University of Bergamo and the University of Naples in Italy . Dean Kang Chongqing and Deputy Dean of EEA of Tsinghua University, Vice President Sergio Cavalieri and Vice President Matteo Kalchschmidt of the University of Bergamo, and Dean Marco D’Ischia of the Institute of Technology and Dean Giorgio Ventre of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of the University of Naples attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Nearly 70 students from China and Italy signed up for the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Giovanni Breglio, a professor from the University of Naples in Italy.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Sergio Cavalieri briefly introduced the background and purpose of the China-Italian Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory. Professor Giorgio Ventre shared the importance of China-Italy Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory in education. Professor Marco D'Ischia and Professor Matteo Kalchschmidt delivered speeches respectively.
Professor Zhu Guiping reviewed the situation of China-Italy Advanced Manufacturing Summer School in 2019. Last summer, 12 students from EEA of Tsinghua University went to Naples, Italy, and after 14 days of study, they surveyed the frontiers of advanced science and technology, expanded their horizons of disciplines, built bridges of friendship, and enhanced cultural integration. The 2020 summer school, though affected by the global pandemic, was held online as scheduled. Teacher Zhu introduced in detail the curricula, teachers, assessment methods and technical matching of the summer school this year so that the students can thoroughly understand the overall arrangement of the summer school in 2020.
Subsequently, on behalf of EEA of Tsinghua University, Professor Kang Chongqing extended warm congratulations on the opening of the Advanced Manufacturing Summer School in 2020. Professor Kang shared the achievements made by EEA in international cooperation, joint research and student exchange under the guidance of the global strategy of Tsinghua University in recent years, and expressed that the China-Italy Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory is a very important bilateral cooperation platform, the summer school held as scheduled during the pandemic is very exciting and encouraging, it will help students explore more advanced technologies and best practices in the field of intelligent manufacturing. Then, Professor Kang wishes all Chinese and Italian students to learn well in the same class though they are in different time zones and different countries.
At the end of the opening ceremony, Zhang Wenyi, a doctoral student from EEA, spoke on behalf of all the students who attended the China-Italy Advanced Summer School in 2019 and sent a message to the new students. Finally, all teachers and students left an unforgettable online group photo.
China-Italy Joint Laboratory on Advanced Manufacturing, referred to as CI-LAM) is the earliest cooperation project established between China and Italy in the field of intelligent manufacturing, smart factory and manufacturing digitalization. The purpose of CI-LAM is to promote cooperation between the two countries in talent training and cutting-edge technology research and development, including technology transfer and entrepreneurial incubation, and its vision is to become the most effective and successful cooperation bridge in the field of advanced manufacturing and intelligent robots between China and Italy. "China-Italy Advanced Manufacturing Summer School" is one of the important activities organized by CI-LAM to enrich the exchange between Chinese and Italian students. In 2020 to face the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, the "2020 China-Italy Advanced Manufacturing Summer School" will be run in the form of online reports and exchanges.
