On May 7, 2020, Elsevier officially released the list of Chinese Most Cited Researchers in 2019, and Professor Kang Chongqing, Dong Xinzhou, Dang Zhimin and Associate Professor Zhao Biao of EEA, Tsinghua University were nominated. Professor Dang Zhimin has been nominated for six years in a row, and Professor Kang Chongqing and Dong Xinzhou have been nominated for three years in a row.
Totally 2,163 researchers from 242 universities, scientific research institutions and enterprises were nominated. Of those from universities, 143 were from Tsinghua University, ranking first.
Chinese Most Cited Researchers were nominated according to the method and standard developed by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy based on objective citation data to analyze the influence of Chinese researchers in the world.
The research data for Chinese Most Cited Researchers were from Elsevier's Scopus database. Scopus, the world largest indexed abstract database of peer-reviewed academic papers, provides a vast amount of data on literature, authors and research institutions related to scientific research activities, making it possible to scientifically analyze and assess the worldwide influence of Chinese scholars. The database contains more than 22,000 journals and 7 million academic conference papers from more than 5,000 publishers around the world. Being nominated by Elsevier as Chinese Most Cited Researchers means that the total number of cited papers published by the researcher as the first author and corresponding author is at the top level among all researchers in this discipline nationwide, and the researcher is globally influencing and has made outstanding contributions to the development of this discipline.
