On December 13, 2019, the 25th New Technology Forum and Digital Intelligent Power Supply Products Release, hosted by China Mobile Design Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as China Mobile Design Institute), was grandly held at Debao Hotel in Beijing. At the meeting, China Mobile Design Institute and EEA of Tsinghua University released two new digital intelligent power supply products of domestic independent research and development - 5G integrated base station energy cabinet and digital energy cabinet, which can be used to improve the power supply efficiency, reduce the energy consumption, decrease the construction cost, and contribute to faster, cheaper and simpler construction and deployment of 5G network.

Professor Kang Chongqing, Dean of EEA and Director of the Energy Internet Innovation Research Institute of Tsinghua University, attended the digital intelligent power supply product release ceremony. The digital energy cabinet product for power supply was jointly developed by China Mobile Design Institute and EEA of Tsinghua University, based on the software-defined digital battery energy management and control technology proposed by Researcher Ci Song's team of EEA, it is the first distributed 5G digital energy storage power supply product in the world, which realizes the iterative evolution of traditional analog power supply equipment to digitalization and IT. The distributed and on-demand deployment at the bottom of the standard cabinet can meet the demand for power supply efficiency, flexibility and reliability of all types of ICT equipment; the product is an ideal solution for the construction of large-scale 5G data center and edge data center as it has realized the digital management and control of the battery system and the automatic inspection of the Internet, improved the energy conversion efficiency and asset utilization efficiency of the power supply system facilities for the ICT equipment, and upgraded the reliability of ICT equipment power supply system.

At the meeting, nearly 400 colleagues from the ICT industry, such as basic communications enterprises, operators and research institutions, made in-depth discussions and reached a broad consensus on 5G network energy consumption, 5G network energy management and control, 5G new power supply architecture and digital intelligent power supply product applications. The two products released have gone aboard with the national "Belt and Road Initiative" strategy, and many operators at home and abroad have expressed strong interest through China Mobile International or other means. In the near future, digital intelligent power supply products will play an important role in the global 5G network construction, and will highly enhance the competitiveness of China Mobile base station power supply system in the international telecommunication industry.

The research team of Ci Song of EEA, Tsinghua University took the lead in the world to put forward the theory and method of software-defined digital energy storage based on energy informatization, which fundamentally solved a series of industry deficiency in battery applications and provides a strong support for satisfy the national needs for 5G, electric vehicles and new energy. Researcher Ci Song's team is currently undertaking an information energy project of the Ministry of Education - China Mobile Joint Fund, which is designed to providing multi-scenario 5G digital power supply solutions for the vertical industry. The proposal of standard intelligent digital energy storage system for sustainable 5G power supply submitted to ITU and ETSI by Ci Song's team with China Institute of Information and Communications of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has been approved by the ITU/ETSI SG5 working group. At present, the research project of "Technical Standard and Testing Method for Digital Energy Storage" of the CCSA 5G power feeding series standard developed with the leadership of EEA of Tsinghua University was initiated to formulate the industrial specifications and standards suitable for the construction and operation of 5G in China. The industrially influencing project is being studied by the three major communication operators and mainstream communication enterprises including China Tower, Huawei and ZTE.
