On the morning of September 9, 2019, the third session of Jingde Forum and the visiting professor appointing ceremony of Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronic Technology (EEA) were held at the 217 lecture hall of the West Main Building of Tsinghua University. Prof. Vijay Vittal, member of National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and famous expert of power system, was appointed as a guest professor for the State Key Laboratory of Power System of Tsinghua University, and was invited to make a special report entitled Modeling, Optimization and Control of Infrastructure Dependent on Power System and Water Supply System. Prof. Yu Xinjie, secretary of the Party Committee of the EEA, Prof. Liang Xidong, director of the State Key Laboratory, Prof. Sun Hongbin and other teachers in the EEA attended the meeting. More than 160 listeners from Tsinghua University, North China Electric Power University, China Agricultural University and China Electric Power Research Institute attended the event. Prof. Yu Xinjie presided over the Jingde Forum.

Prof. Sun Hongbin, director of Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronic Technology (EEA) introduced Prof. Vittal's profile to the audience. Prof. Vittal is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE), IEEE fellow, director professor of Ira A. Fulton, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Arizona State University, and director of PSERC. The main research directions include power system dynamic security analysis, power system operation and control, power system robust control technology application, etc.

Mr. Yu Xinjie presented Prof. Vittal with the "Jingde Forum" Commemorative Plate and certificate, and took a group photo as a souvenir.
After that, Prof. Vittal started his wonderful report to the audience at the Jingde Forum. Focusing on the interdependence between power system and water conservancy system, he introduced the analysis framework considering the interaction between them, the mathematical model describing the corresponding dynamic process, and the long-time scale integrated simulation engine of power and water conservancy system based on the model, and illustrated the impact of large-scale drought and power accident on the two interconnected systems through examples.
Prof. Vittal's report aroused a lot of active questions from the audience. The audience and Prof. Vittal had a full exchange, interaction and in-depth academic discussion. Finally, the report and interaction of the forum ended in a warm applause.

The purpose of the Forum is to carry forward the fine tradition of the EEA, to commemorate a large number of outstanding predecessors of the Department represented by President Gao Jingde, and to inherit their rigorous scholarship and innovative spirit. The invited guests are mainly influential high-level experts and scholars in the fields of electricity, energy, higher education and other related fields at home and abroad. The lecture topics of the report are cutting-edge scientific and technological progress, major strategic planning, talent training mode, innovation of educational concept, etc.
Mr. Gao Jingde is a famous power engineering expert, outstanding educator, member (academician) of the Academic Department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, former president of Tsinghua University, founder of the State Key Lab of Safety Control and Simulation of Power System and Large-scale Power Generation Equipments, and IEEE fellow.
