On the morning of March 28, 2019, the first lecture of Jingde Forum in Department of Electrical Engineering& Applied Electronic Technology (EEA), Tsinghua University (THU), was held in Lecture Hall 217 of West Main Building. Academician Ma Weiming, an alumnus of the EEA and the winner of the "Bayi Medal", was invited to give a special report entitled Grasping the Development Opportunity in the Era of Electromagnetic Energy. Lu Qiang, professor of the EEA and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Han Yingduo, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Zeng Rong, director of Personnel Department of Tsinghua University, Kang Chongqing, director of the EEA, and Yu Xinjie, secretary of Party Committee of EEA, attended the lecture. More than 200 teachers and students in EEA and other departments attended the first lecture of Jingde Forum.

First of all, on behalf of the EEA, Mr. Kang introduced the purpose and theme of the "Jingde Forum". He expressed thanks to Mr. Ma Weiming for his support for the development of the EEA and for his concern for the training of students. Mr. Kang welcomed Mr. Ma to come back to his mother's department to communicate with teachers and students. Academicians Lu Qiang and Han Yingduo respectively awarded Memorial medals and certificates to Academician Ma Weiming.

Later, the lecture started. Academician Ma Weiming, an alumnus of the EEA and the winner of the "Bayi Medal", gave a new speech to the faculty and students. He mentioned that scientific and technological innovation is the strategic choice to seize the commanding heights of future military competition, and it is the inevitable requirement to adapt to the law of development of weapons and equipment and to lead a new round of scientific and technological revolution. Academician Ma introduced in detail the innovative breakthroughs and potential expanding applications in the fields of electromagnetic launching and integrated power technology for warships in China. Mr. Ma also put forward many considerations and suggestions on the development of traditional electrical engineering disciplines and the integration with information, materials, machinery and other disciplines.

After the lecture, Academician Ma had a full exchange and interaction with the teachers and students present. Facing the enthusiastic questions from teachers and students, he patiently and meticulously answered the questions. The forum report and interactive link lasted for three hours. He also sent words on the students' long-term development in the field of energy in the future. He encouraged them to have keen insight and perseverance in scientific research in the future, requested them to take the scientific research as a lifelong goal and held it on to the end, so as to make great achievements to the great rejuvenation and rise of the nation.

Brief introduction of Jingde Forum:
The purpose of the forum is to carry forward the fine tradition of the EEA, to commemorate a large number of outstanding predecessors of the EEA represented by President Gao Jingde, and to inherit their spirit of rigorous learning and innovation. The invited guests are mainly high-level experts and scholars at home and abroad who are influential in the fields of electricity, energy and higher education. The theme of the lecture is involved in frontier scientific and technological progress, major strategic planning, personnel training mode, innovation of educational concept, etc.
Mr. Gao Jingde is a famous expert in electric power engineering, an outstanding educator, a member (Academician) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the former president of Tsinghua University, the founder of the State Key Laboratory for Safety Control and Simulation of Electric Power Systems and Large Power Generation Equipment, and IEEE Fellow.
Profiles of the guests at the Forum:
Ma Weiming, born in 1960 and a native of Yangzhong, Jiangsu Province, graduated from Tsinghua University with a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. He is a famous expert in the field of electrical engineering and ship power, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Major General of professional technology, the First Level of professional technology, and director of Key Laboratory of National Defense Science and Technology, Naval University of Engineering.
Academician Ma Weiming has devoted himself to the research of electrical field for a long time. He has led the scientific research and innovation team to carry out a series of basic applied theory researches, key technology tackling and major equipment development in the fields of naval energy and power, electromagnetic launching technology and new energy access technology. He has achieved a number of revolutionary original results and guided the development of two subversive technologies of magnetic emission and integrated power & electricity of naval ships.
Academician Ma led the team to win 1 Innovation Team Award of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 3 first prizes and 2 second prizes of National Science and Technology Progress, 2 third prizes of National Technology Invention, and 17 first prizes and 9 second prizes of Military Science and Technology Progress. The team won the first National Innovation Competition Award and was awarded the honorary title of Ma Weiming Model Team of Innovation & Army Strengthening by the PLA Navy. He has won the first-class collective merits twice.
Academician Ma Weiming won the highest PLA honor--Bayi Medal in 2017, and was awarded awards and titles such as the first Top Ten National Excellent Scientific and Technological Workers and the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Achievement Award. He was elected alternate member of the 18th and 19th Central Committee, representative of the 9th, 11th, 12th and 13th National People's Congress, the member of the 8th Standing Committee and Vice-Chairman of the 9th National Committee of the China Association for Science and Technology.
