From January 21 to 25, 2019, at the invitation of Prof. Hur Kyeon, Yonsei University, Korea, Mr. Zhang Ning, associate professor of Department of Electrical Engineering & Applied Electronic Technology (EEA), Tsinghua University, went to Seoul, Korea to teach the short-term postgraduate course-Analytics and Optimization for Renewable Energy Integration.
This course is a one-week short-term course, totaling 15 hours. It covers uncertainty analysis and optimization theory & method of power system under renewable penetration, including the long-term and short-term uncertainty analysis of wind power and photovoltaic power generation, the stochastic unit combination and risk unit combination model and solution method of power system under renewable penetration, the power source and grid plan under renewable penetration, operation simulation and reliability of renewable energy capacity, the experience of China's renewable energy consumption, etc. The course is taught in English and the textbook is the Analytics and Optimization for Renewable Energy Integration, an academic monograph published by Prof. Zhang Ning et al.

There were 17 graduate students in the course. In addition, engineers from the Korean Electric Power Research Institute (KEPRI) and Korea Power Exchange (KPX) attended the course. After the course, students said Prof. Zhang Ning’s course could provide a lot of information that had more ideas for academic research in the graduate stage. The course was funded by the Brain Korea 21 PLUS High-level Course Program in Korea. The successful opening of this course marks a new step for the EEA THU in the international export of high-level courses.
Yonsei University, founded in 1885 in Seoul, Korea, is a top research-oriented private university and one of the oldest universities in Korea. It ranks second in South Korea's top universities. Yonsei University, Seoul National University and Korea University were called the "S.K.Y." among Korea universities. In 2018, Yonsei University ranked 12th in QS Asian University Ranking.
During his stay in Korea, associate Prof. Zhang Ning also visited the Korea Electric Power Research Institute (KEPRI) and made a report on High Renewable Penetration Grid: Challenges and Solutions. He shared the experience of China in consuming high proportion renewable energy with experts of the Korean Academy of Electric Power.
