From January 19 to 21, 2019, nearly 50 excellent high school students from all over the country gathered in the Department of Electrical Engineering & Applied Electronic Technology (EEA), Tsinghua University (THU) to participate in the THU Intelligent Energy and Big Data Innovation Competition organized by the EEA.
On the evening of January 19, the opening ceremony was held in Room 217, Area 3, West Main Building in Tsinghua University. Yu Xinjie, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department, Zhu Guiping, deputy director of the Department, Guo Qinglai, a representative of the young teachers, and nearly 100 members of the camp and their parents, participated in the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof. Zhu Guiping.
In his speech, Prof. Yu Xinjie, on behalf of the EEA, warmly welcomed all the students who participated in the Innovation Competition, and expressed sincere thanks to the teachers and volunteers who worked hard in preparing for the Competition. In his speech, he introduced the development history and glorious tradition of the EEA, and introduced the current general situation of the electrical engineering discipline in Tsinghua University from the discipline construction level, teaching staff, training program and so on. Finally, he encouraged all students to work hard for the successful entry into Tsinghua University.
Prof. Guo Qinglai, an outstanding young teacher, introduced the current situation and prospects of the hot research field--energy Internet in depth by taking the topic Energy Meets the Internet. He said that the EEA has always attached great importance to teaching and scientific research. In recent years, it has made a series of significant innovative achievements in many frontier areas of electrical science. It provides more and better platforms for students' academic growth. He hoped the students will cherish opportunities and fly their dreams.

Finally, Prof. Zhu Guiping interpreted the specific arrangement of this activity in detail, and put forward earnest expectations for all the camp members. All students expressed that after listening to the teachers' introduction, they had deeper understandings in the research direction of electrical engineering discipline, the history, current situation and development prospects of the Department of Electrical Engineering, and strengthened their determination to study energy and electrical sciences.
After the opening ceremony, all the camp members visited the State Key Laboratory for Safety Control and Simulation of Power Systems and Large Power Generation Equipment.

On the morning of January 20 and 21, the students took part in the test of the Innovation Competition. The test section mainly examines the students' ability to quickly learn new knowledge, to practice and operate, as well as the ability of team work and leadership. The participating students have shown a high comprehensive quality as a whole.
On the afternoon of January 20, the students visited the State Grid Dispatching Center. Under the guidance of the staff of the Center, the students watched the propaganda film of the State Grid, and felt the working atmosphere of the dispatching hall at a close distance. They were deeply impressed by the high degree of informatization and automation of the Dispatching Center. After the visit, the staff of the Center had extensive exchanges with the students. The students asked questions enthusiastically. They discussed the current situation and trend of the utilization of new energy and power generation, and the talent demand of the State Grid. They showed their interest in related fields, and also showed their basic quality and knowledge reserves.

On the afternoon of January 21, the students participated in the comprehensive interview. After the end of the engineering business, students embarked on the way home with a new understanding of the EEA and nostalgia for Tsinghua Campus. They will continue to prepare for the college entrance examination in 2019. We sincerely hope that students will calmly face the challenge and get excellent results in the college entrance examination, and become the new masters of Tsinghua Campus in the golden autumn of 2019!
