Recently, IEEE Power & Energy Magazine, the flagship magazine of the IEEE Power and Energy Society, has organized an album with the theme of "Electrical Power Big Data". It has collected six papers completed by 22 institutes from four Continents. It introduces and looks forward to the development direction of the Electrical Power Big Data in the future from different aspects.
Mr. Kang Chongqing, Professor of Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE), Tsinghua University, was invited to write a joint article with Prof. Xue Yusheng, Honorary Dean of State Grid Electric Power Research Institute, Prof. Mu Gang, former President of Northeast Dianli University, and Prof. Liao Ruijin, vice-President of Chongqing University, to introduce the latest progress in the research and application of large data in China's electric power industry. The title of the paper is "Big Data Analytics in China's Electric Power Industry: Modern Information, Communication Technologies, and Millions of Smart Meters". The first author and the correspondent author are Prof. Kang Chong. Firstly, this paper briefly introduces the development status of electric power large data in China, then gives examples from four aspects: demand side, renewable energy, power system stability and power equipment. Finally, it summarizes the challenges and Countermeasures faced in the development of large power data in China from the aspects of data security, power system reform and high proportion of renewable energy grid connection.
