Xiongfei Wang is Xinghua Chair Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, where he leads the Research Group on Large-Capacity Power Electronics and New-Type Power Transmission. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics and Co-Editor-in-Chief of CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems. He is also Chair of IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) Technical Committee 8 (TC8) on Electronic Power Grid Systems and Chair of the IEEE International Technology Roadmap of High-Power Electronics for Modern Energy Grids (ITRG).
Dr. Wang received his Ph.D. degree in Energy Technology from Aalborg University, Denmark, in 2013, where he became Assistant Professor in 2014, Associate Professor in 2016, and was appointed Professor and founding Leader of the Electronic Power Grid (eGRID) Research Group in 2018. From 2022 to 2025, he was Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden, while also serving as Part-Time Professor at Aalborg University. In 2025, he joined Tsinghua University as Xinghua Chair Professor and Research Group Lead.
Dr. Wang's research spans modeling and control of power electronic converters, stability and power quality of power-electronics-dominated power systems, and high-power electronic systems. His work has advanced the understanding and control of the increasingly complex interactions between power electronic converters and modern power grids, contributing to enabling technologies for renewable energy integration and next-generation power systems. He has received 12 IEEE Prize Paper Awards, the 2016 AAU Talent for Future Research Leaders Award, the 2018 IEEE Richard M. Bass Outstanding Young Power Electronics Engineer Award, the 2019 IEEE PELS Sustainable Energy Systems Technical Achievement Award, and the 2022 Isao Takahashi Power Electronics Award.
