Yang Yang is currently an Assistant Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, and Specially Appointed Research Fellow in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University. He was selected for a national young talent program in 2025. He received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Southwest Jiaotong University (Mao Yisheng Honors College) in July 2014 and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2019. From 2019 to 2023, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Simpson Querrey Institute for BioNanotechnology at Northwestern University, USA, where he subsequently served as a Research Associate from 2023 to 2025. He joined the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University in January 2026.

His research focuses on high-performance supramolecular nanomaterials for electrical engineering, smart dielectrics, and their applications in energy equipment. His representative contributions include: (1) bio-based, biodegradable nanoscale ferroelectric materials exhibiting record-low energy-consumption parameters among multiaxial organic ferroelectrics; (2) self-healing solid dielectrics, achieving the first repair of insulation damage in electrical and energy materials such as polyolefins and epoxy resins, and providing approaches to substantially extend the service life and improve the reliability of power equipment; and (3) soft robots driven by coupled optical and electrical actuation, with intelligent functions including autonomous obstacle avoidance and cargo transport, overcoming the reliance of soft robots on control units.

He has published 35 papers, including 12 SCI-indexed articles as first author, co-first author, or corresponding author in journals such as Nature (sole first author), Nature Nanotechnology (sole first author), Science Advances, Advanced Materials, Matter, and Advanced Science. He has filed one U.S. patent application and holds three granted Chinese patents. His research has been highlighted by journals including Science, Nature Reviews Materials, and Matter, as well as international media outlets including Bloomberg. His honors include the 2022 IEEE Caixin Sun and Stan Grzybowski Young-Professional Achievement Award, presented to one recipient worldwide every two years, and recognition as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher in 2023.
