Biography
Qixin Chen, currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He received the Ph.D. degree from the same University in 2010, and won Nominee Honor as National Excellent 100 Doctoral Dissertation by Ministry of Education of China. He had ever worked as a Research Assistant in School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom in 2008. He has published more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed top ranked journals and top class international conference, and more than 10 patents in recent years. Citation in Google Scholar is about 2800 times, with an H-index as 27. He had undertook and participated in about 30 research projects, sponsored by World Bank, Royal Society of UK, National Energy Bureau of China, National Scientific Foundation Committee of China (NSFC), State Grid of China, China Southern Power Grid, etc. He has been granted three “Provincial/Ministerial-level Science and Technology Awards” from the Chinese governments for his contributions on the power industry. He was granted the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars by NSFC and the Research Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars by the Fok Ying-Tong Education Foundation. He was recognized by Prosper.net-Scopus as part of its Young Scientist Award in 2011. And he was a winner of TR 35 in 2012 (The World’s Top 35 Young Innovator under the Age of 35) by MIT Technology Review. He was also granted the title of Global Young Scientist Honor (40 under the age of 40 annually) by the World Economic Forum in 2013, and he was invited to present in the Summer Davos Conference.
In recent years, he has conducted prospective study in the field of energy economics and electricity market. He has a profound role in the prediction of electricity-related economic indicators for the national 13th Five-Year Plan for the electricity sector. His research closely follows China's power market construction, planning, design, evaluation and other series of work. He proposed the theory of electricity market mechanism designing with asymmetric information, and constructed an efficient analytical model of game equilibrium in the electricity market. He also undertook a number of research projects commissioned by the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration of China, and participated in the drafting of “Several Opinions of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on Further Deepening the Reform of the Electric Power System” which is the leading document of China’s current reform in the electricity sector as well as other related documents. He participated in the design of the energy and ancillary market of South China, Northwest China, Northeast China, and Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan area. He participated in the drafting of the first spot market plan of Guangdong, Shanxi, Gansu, and Inner Mongolia, and the development of the trading systems supporting for the medium or long term and spot trading of energy and ancillary services in many regional or provincial electricity markets, including Southern Power Grid, Northeast Power Grid, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Shanxi, and Inner Mongolia. The trading systems also support market management, contract management, analysis & evaluation, market simulation, market settlement, and market clearance. The total electricity traded through the systems is over 1 trillion kWh.
