Integration of Transportation and Energy — A Decade of Excellence

The 10th Symposium on Emerging Techonology of Transportation Electrification

In response to China’s dual-carbon goals and the national strategy of becoming a transportation powerhouse, and to build consensus for industrial innovation in transportation–energy integration during the “15th Five-Year Plan” period, the 10th Symposium on Emerging Techonology of Transportation Electrification (SETTE 2026) was successfully held in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province from June 25 to 27, 2026. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the forum. With the theme “Integration of Transportation and Energy — A Decade of Excellence,” the forum was jointly organized by the Transportation Electrification Professional Committee of the China Power Supply Society, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tongji University, Tsinghua University, CRRC Zhuzhou Institute Co., Ltd., and CRRC Times Electric Co., Ltd. The forum brought together nearly 100 invited experts and scholars, including Academician Ding Rongjun and Academician Feng Jianghua, as well as more than 400 experts from universities, research institutions, and industrial enterprises across the world. Participants spanned multiple disciplines, including rail transit, marine engineering, aviation, new energy vehicles, maglev and superconducting systems, power systems, power electronics, energy storage, and artificial intelligence.

Ten Years of Platform Building — A Premier Academic Event in Transportation Electrification in China

The 10th Frontier Forum on Transportation Electrification

The SETTE Forum was jointly initiated in 2017 by Tsinghua University and CRRC Zhuzhou Institute, and it is the first interdisciplinary academic conference in the field of transportation electrification in China. Over the past decade, the forum has focused on the integration of transportation and energy systems, building a complete chain from fundamental research and engineering breakthroughs to industrial implementation. It has now become a benchmark academic platform with the most comprehensive coverage and the highest level in the industry.

The 10th anniversary edition of the forum brought together top-tier resources from across the sector. The Academic Committee of the forum is chaired by Academician Feng Jianghua of CRRC Group. Professor Zheng Zedong of Tsinghua University serves as Chair of the Technical Program Committee. Professor Zhu Miao of Shanghai Jiao Tong University serves as General Chair, and Professor Kang Jinsong of Tongji University serves as Co-Chair. The forum also received co-organizational support from the IEEE Transportation Electrification Council and the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society Transportation Electrification Technical Committee, as well as academic dissemination support from more than ten leading international and domestic journals.

The opening ceremony on June 26 was chaired by Professor Zhu Miao. Professor Zhang Bo of South China University of Technology, Vice Chair of the China Power Supply Society, delivered the opening address on behalf of the organizing society. He highly commended the Transportation Electrification Committee for its outstanding contributions in promoting deep integration of industry, academia, and research, and expressed higher expectations for its continued role in advancing China’s transportation electrification development. Professor Hulya from Auburn University, President of the IEEE Transportation Electrification Council, delivered an online opening address on behalf of the co-organizers, warmly congratulating the convening of the forum and expressing expectations for further strengthening international collaboration to jointly promote global energy transition and transportation electrification.

In the keynote ceremony segment, Academician Ding Rongjun of CRRC Group reviewed the ten-year development of the forum, highlighted the core role of Transportation Electrification in energy transition and the development of new quality productive forces, and presented a comprehensive vision for the next decade of transportation electrification. Professor Li Yongdong, Chair of the Transportation Electrification Professional Committee and Professor at Tsinghua University, delivered remarks introducing the committee’s work plan for the new stage and sharing reflections on the future positioning and organizational development of the forum. Professor Liu Yadong, Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, representing the host institution, expressed sincere gratitude to the China Power Supply Society and the Professional Committee for their trust and support in the electrical engineering discipline at SJTU, and expressed hope for continued collaboration nationwide to jointly promote prosperity and innovation in transportation electrification.

The keynote invited lecture session featured eleven distinguished experts: Professor Liu Haitao (Deputy General Manager and Chief Engineer, CRRC Zhuzhou Institute), Chief Engineer Kang Yuanli (Chief Expert, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China), Researcher Li Mingyong (Deputy Director, China State Shipbuilding Corporation 712 Institute), Researcher Wang Shuofeng (Deputy Chief Engineer, 704 Institute), Professor Zheng Zedong (Tsinghua University), Professor Zhu Miao (Deputy Director, National Energy Smart Grid R&D Center, Shanghai Jiao Tong University), Researcher Lin Guobin (Director, Key Laboratory of Maglev Railway Technology), Professor Zhang Zhuoran (Dean, College of Civil Aviation, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics), Professor Yuan Chengqing (Dean, School of Transportation and Logistics Engineering, Wuhan University of Technology), Senior Engineer Rao Jianye (Dean, Clean Energy Research Institute, China Electric Power Planning & Engineering Institute), and Senior Engineer Liu Zhaohui (Chief Engineer, National Innovation Center of New Energy Vehicle Technology). The invited experts engaged in in-depth technical exchanges and lively discussions with participants on core topics such as rail transit, aviation, ship engineering, maglev systems, port shore power, energy policy, electric vehicles, and new-type power systems.

The forum established six parallel sessions and twelve thematic sub-forums, focusing on segmented technical tracks and covering key technologies across the entire industrial chain, including: rail transit traction systems, port shore power and ship electrification, power electronic devices and applications, more-electric and all-electric aircraft, electric vehicle drivetrains and charging, new motor and control technologies, maglev and superconducting systems, multi-source propulsion systems, artificial intelligence applications, and frontier foundational technologies in transportation electrification. Each sub-forum was chaired by renowned professors, young scholars, and leading industry engineers, covering fundamental theoretical innovation, key technology development, core equipment engineering, and application deployment scenarios.

The conference also held several concurrent events. The Second Working Meeting of the Transportation Electrification Professional Committee of the China Power Supply Society was successfully convened, systematically summarizing past achievements, analyzing industry trends, and deploying key tasks for the next stage. For the first time, two technical lectures were organized, focusing respectively on hydrogen fuel cell lifetime management and port shore power cluster resource optimization, chaired by young scholars from Northwestern Polytechnical University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. At the same time, the “MPS Core Cup” Transportation Electrification PhD Student Academic Presentation Session was successfully held, providing a professional platform for young researchers. Thirty-four outstanding graduate students from more than 20 universities across China presented their latest research findings.
