Within Tsinghua Garden, spring is in full bloom and the season is at its finest. On the occasion of the 115th anniversary of Tsinghua University, the Department of Electrical Engineering opened its arms to welcome alumni returning from all directions with a reunion full of warmth and affection.

As the morning light broke, the area in front of the West Main Building was already bustling with figures. Familiar smiles, tightly clasped hands, and a simple “long time no see” dissolved the distance of years. Faculty members and student volunteers of the Department of Electrical Engineering moved among the crowd, handing out custom-designed department badges and red ribbons, delivering warmth to every returning alumnus.

At the alumni symposiums, alumni engaged in in-depth conversations with faculty and students of the department. Department leaders reported on recent achievements and explorations in scientific research and education, while alumni shared their experiences and reflections from across the country and around the world. They narrated stories of breakthroughs in research and talent cultivation over the years, while also listening to alumni recount their journeys of struggle and growth in different fields. At that moment, time seemed to flow backward and forward simultaneously, tightly connecting the past and the future.

Over the two-day anniversary period, the Department of Electrical Engineering received more than 700 returning alumni. A total of 12 alumni anniversary symposiums were held, including the symposium of 60th anniversary for alumni graduated in 1966, the symposium of 40th anniversary for alumni graduated in 1986, the symposium of 40th anniversary for alumni admitted in 1986, the symposium of 30th anniversary for alumni graduated in 1996, and symposium of the 10th anniversary for Class 16 of Ph.D of Electrical Engineering (admitted in 2016).

Alongside these cohort symposiums, a series of activities were also held, including the fifth “Tian-E Plan,” the “Smart Connection of Alumni • Dialogue on the Future” alumni enterprise exhibition, alumni forums for the Northeast region, and university alumni roundtables.
