The Office of International Affairs of Tsinghua University and the Department of Electrical Engineering will jointly host a lecture on April 9, 2026, featuring Professor Phil Taylor, Honorary Professor of Tsinghua University. The event invites Professor Phil Taylor, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Bath and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, to deliver a keynote speech on “Multi-Energy Coordination and Flexibility Enhancement in Low-Carbon and Resilient Energy Systems.” We sincerely invite faculty and students to attend. Join the Global Vision Lecture of Tsinghua University Honorary Professor Phil Taylor on April 9 Organized by the Office of International Affairs and the Department of Electrical Engineering, this special event features a lecture by Professor Phil Taylor, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Bath and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.

Content Introduction

China and the UK are global leaders in renewable energy deployment, flexibility markets, and multi-energy integration. Drawing on 30 years of industry and academic experience, this lecture delivers cutting-edge UK insights into building flexible, resilient, low-carbon energy systems, highlighting the central role of energy networks in enabling large-scale integration of renewables. With around 50% of UK electricity already generated from renewable sources, it addresses urgent challenges such as system flexibility, reduced inertia, and the transition of gas, heat, and emerging vectors like hydrogen. The lecture also showcases pioneering research from the University of Bath, including AI-driven solutions for energy storage, distributed energy resources, and system optimization, alongside new approaches to climate resilience. Closely aligned with China’s vision for future power systems, it reveals exciting opportunities for collaboration with Tsinghua University in shaping the future of global energy.
