From January 6th to 7th, the acceptance inspection for the power generation side demonstration project and the 2025 annual meeting for the "100MW-level Dynamically Reconfigurable Battery Energy Storage Technology" project, part of the National Key R&D Program "Energy Storage and Smart Grid Technology" special program, were successfully held in Alxa Left Banner, Inner Mongolia. The meeting was led and hosted by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) at Tsinghua University and co-organized by Huadian Inner Mongolia Energy Co., Ltd. An expert panel was invited to participate, including Professor Wang Xindong from the University of Science and Technology Beijing, Researcher Wang Zhaoxiang from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor-level Senior Engineer Chong Zhiyi from the State Grid Corporation Limited Ultra-high Voltage Construction Company, Professor Liang Chengdu from Zhejiang University (online), Professor-level Senior Engineer Lai Xiaokang from the China Electric Power Research Institute (online), and Professor-level Senior Engineer Wang Fang from the China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd. (online). More than 50 key technical members from the project team attended the meeting through a combination of online and offline methods.

On-site Inspection and Acceptance of the 100MWh Dynamically Reconfigurable Battery Energy Storage System Demonstration Project

On the afternoon of January 6th, the expert panel visited the Deleger No. 2 Solar-Storage Power Station to conduct the acceptance inspection for the power generation side 100MWh dynamically reconfigurable battery energy storage system demonstration project. Following an on-site inspection, a review of reports on the demonstration project's construction and operation, an examination of construction documents, and a session of inquiries and discussions, the expert panel unanimously agreed to accept the power generation side 100MWh dynamically reconfigurable battery energy storage system demonstration project. This power generation side demonstration project was completed and put into operation in January 2025 and has been operating safely and stably for 12 months. The demonstration project successfully passed all grid-related tests, including power quality tests for energy storage, grid adaptability tests for the energy storage system, fault ride-through capability tests, rated energy and rated energy conversion efficiency tests, as well as inertia response and primary frequency regulation tests, with third-party test reports obtained. The system is compatible with five different batches/models of battery modules and supports the replacement of any individual battery module. The DC side efficiency of the battery cluster is 94.84%, and the overall system efficiency is 84.06%, also verified by third-party test reports. According to user tests and related reports, the station's availability factor is 99.3%. The system cost of the energy storage power station using dynamically reconfigurable batteries is comparable to that of stations using traditional fixed series-parallel configurations . Based on massive long-duration operational data, it has been confirmed for the first time internationally that dynamically reconfigurable battery network technology can achieve entropy reduction in battery systems.

2025 Annual Meeting of the "100MW-level Dynamically Reconfigurable Battery Energy Storage Technology" Project On January 7th, the 2025 annual meeting for the "100MW-level Dynamically Reconfigurable Battery Energy Storage Technology" project was held in the conference hall of the Taixi International Hotel. The project leader and Chief Scientist, Researcher Ci Song, reported on the project's implementation progress in 2025. Subsequently, relevant technical leaders reported on seven new technologies/methods, including the design of intrinsically safe battery modules for dynamically reconfigurable battery systems, optimization design for large-scale dynamically reconfigurable battery system architectures, and intrinsically safe control methods based on dynamically reconfigurable battery technology. Following expert reviews, a formal evaluation opinion was formed.

As one of the key common technologies within the "Energy Storage and Smart Grid Technology" special program, the "100MW-level Dynamically Reconfigurable Battery Energy Storage Technology" project addresses challenges related to the management, coordinated control, and safe operation of numerous differentiated batteries. By leveraging information-energy cross-fusion technologies and innovative module technologies, it revolutionizes battery integration modes and energy management mechanisms. The project overcomes a series of key technologies related to efficient system integration, optimized operation, and intelligent maintenance, develops 100MW-level dynamically reconfigurable battery energy storage system equipment, and constructs demonstration projects on the power generation side, grid side, and user side. Led by Tsinghua University, with Researcher Ci Song from the EEA as the project leader, the project is scheduled to complete all key technical research tasks, conduct comprehensive performance evaluations of the demonstration projects, and undergo final reviews and acceptance of sub-tasks and the overall project during the 2026 annual cycle.
