On the morning of August 11, the opening ceremony of the 2025 Future Power and Energy (FPES) Summer School of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) at Tsinghua University was held in the West Main Building. Department Dean Kang Chongqing and Deputy Dean Sun Kai attended the ceremony. Hosted by EEA, this summer school aims to respond to the global demand for new power systems and innovative energy solutions, providing young scholars from around the world with a comprehensive platform integrating professional knowledge, technical practice, and cultural experiences.

The ceremony was hosted by EEA teacher Zhang Pengcheng, who extended a warm welcome to the 29 participants from 20 universities across 16 countries.

Welcome Address by Kang Chongqing

In his welcome address, Kang Chongqing emphasized that the low-carbon and green transformation of power and energy systems is critical to global sustainable development, and that innovative thinking will play a key role in shaping increasingly complex future energy systems integrated with cutting-edge technologies. He encouraged students to fully engage in the summer school, actively ask questions, challenge conventional ideas, expand their thinking, and drive real transformation in the energy field. The future of energy systems lies in the hands of young people, whose innovative thinking and exploration of sustainable solutions will be the driving force behind the next generation of power and energy systems. He also expressed gratitude to all instructors and the teaching assistant team and wished the participants a fruitful and enjoyable summer school experience.

Introduction of Summer School Arrangements by Hu Zechun

Professor Hu Zechun introduced Tsinghua University’s international exchange and student training initiatives and detailed the arrangements for this summer school. The program is rich and intensive, covering nine frontier courses in the power and energy field, three Chinese cultural experience classes, and three technical site visits.

Student Self-Introductions

During the self-introduction session, students from various countries enthusiastically shared their expectations and excitement about studying at Tsinghua University and experiencing Chinese culture.

The 29 participants arrived at Tsinghua University on August 10 for registration. With the careful guidance of EE faculty members Luo Jiao, Zhou Junyu, Zhang Pengcheng, and the teaching assistant team, the students quickly familiarized themselves with the campus and integrated into the dynamic and engaging summer school program.

Summer school student registration

Through a series of carefully designed lectures, seminars, and field visits, the summer school promotes knowledge exchange and the collision of ideas. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with the latest research, explore frontier issues in the power and energy sector, and broaden their international perspective in a cross-cultural environment. In the context of the global energy transition and advancing sustainable development goals, international collaboration in electrical engineering education has become increasingly important. By hosting international summer schools and related activities, EEA is actively building a global educational cooperation network, providing an international learning platform for students worldwide, and contributing to the development of the global energy sector.
