On the morning of December 5, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) held a Young Faculty Salon and the 2024 Annual Meeting of the "Young Faculty Development Mentor Group" at the Meeting Room 102, Zone 3, West Main Building. The event was attended by Yu Xinjie, Director of the Human Resources Department at Tsinghua University; Guo Qinglai, Director of the Party School Office; Wang Yuanyuan, Senior Supervisor of the Faculty Development Center; members of the first group of Young Faculty Career Development Mentors at EEA; young faculty who have completed their career development consulting period; and other young faculty members of the department. The event was hosted by Zheng Zedong, Party Secretary of EEA.

Zheng Zedong delivered a speech
At the meeting, Zheng Zedong reviewed the development history of the Young Faculty Development Mentor Group and emphasized that it is an important platform carefully created by the university to assist young faculty in their growth. He highlighted that this mentor group helps new faculty quickly adapt to the new work rhythm, smoothly transition from newcomers in academia to core members in teaching and research, and enhances young faculty's professional qualities, teaching, and research skills. It also establishes a long-term information feedback mechanism to support the long-term development of young faculty's careers.

Following this, young faculty representatives Fu Yangyang, Ji Shiqi, Wu Jinpeng, and Wu Chao shared their personal growth journeys and valuable experiences gained from the mentor group. Fu Yangyang particularly mentioned the significant impact of Professor Wang Xinxin in helping him integrate into the academic community and expand his collaborative vision. Ji Shiqi emphasized the guidance of Professor Zhao Zhengming in improving his academic taste, as well as Professor Sun Kai's advice on technology application and maintaining research leadership. Wu Jinpeng shared the support and advice he received from Professor Guo Qinglai in adapting to his new role and mentoring graduate students. All three teachers highly recognized the mentor system and expressed their gratitude for the guidance and support provided by the department.

Representatives from the Young Faculty Development Mentor Group, including Wang Xinxin, Sun Kai, and Guo Qinglai, also spoke at the meeting. They acknowledged the positive role of the mentor system in promoting young faculty’s career development based on their rich experience and provided constructive suggestions for further development of the system. They emphasized that the core of the mentor system is to stimulate young faculty's initiative, and the guidance and support from senior faculty are indispensable. Young faculty need to have an international perspective, and senior faculty should help them establish research directions, integrate into the academic environment, and be aware of potential risks in the research process.

Wang Yuanyuan delivered a speech
Wang Yuanyuan also shared at the meeting. She introduced the progress of the university’s efforts to establish the Young Faculty Development Mentor Group system and stated that the Faculty Development Center will continue to organize cross-departmental, multi-topic training and exchange activities to support departments in better establishing and implementing the system. They will also actively build platforms for young faculty training and exchange to assist in career planning.

Yu Xinjie gave a concluding speech. He affirmed the role of the Young Faculty Development Mentor Group in helping young faculty quickly identify their research positions and adapt to their roles, and appreciated their active participation in public service. Yu Xinjie expressed high expectations for young faculty, encouraging them to keep learning and reflecting in their daily work, and to actively seek advice from senior faculty, so that the mentor group system can be effectively implemented and realized in daily work. He also set higher expectations for the department's Young Faculty Development Mentor Group.
