On October 29, the award ceremony for the 10th HVDC and Power Electronics Innovation Cup Competition (2024) was held in Tianjin. The project titled "Next-Generation High-Toughness HVDC Core Equipment: High-Load Modular Commutated Converter" by PhD students Bai Ruihang and Wang Lin from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA), Tsinghua University, and Dr. Zhang Xueyin, an engineer at the Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, won the first prize. The award certificates and trophies were presented by Chen Mei, Party Secretary of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE), and Li Licheng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The project "Asymmetrical Compact Monodirectional Current MMC for Offshore Wind Power Delivery System" by PhD students Wang Yunfei, Zhang Zixuan, and Postdoctoral researcher Li Zhengxuan won the second prize. The certificates and trophies were presented by Academicians Rao Hong and Yu Yixin.

After the award ceremony, winner team member Zhang Xueyin delivered a presentation on "Next-Generation High-Toughness HVDC Core Equipment: High-Load Modular Commutated Converter" to share and discuss the core research results of the project with the attending experts and scholars.

The HVDC and Power Electronics Innovation Cup Competition, organized by CSEE and hosted by the Committee of HVDC and Power Electronics, has been held for 10 consecutive years and has a broad impact in the industry. The competition was chaired by Li Licheng, with a judging panel consisting of 9-12 well-known domestic and international experts and scholars in the field of HVDC and power electronics. Among many entries, the panel selected two first prizes, two second prizes, and two excellence awards.
