Professor Dushan Boroyevich is a world-renowned scientist in the field of power electronics. He obtained his bachelor's degree from the University of Belgrade in the former Yugoslavia in 1976, a master's degree from the University of Novi Sad in 1982, and a PhD from Virginia Tech in 1986. He is currently a distinguished professor at Virginia Tech, a member of the National Academy of Engineering, and an IEEE Fellow. He has served as the president of the IEEE Power Electronics Society, vice president of Virginia Tech, and director of the Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES). In 2007, he received the William E. Newell Award, the highest award in the field of power electronics.
The CPES, led by Professor Dushan Boroyevich, is the first national engineering research center in electrical engineering approved by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and has become one of the most influential research institutions in power electronics over its 30-plus years of existence, consistently leading the development of power electronics science and technology.
Professor Dushan Boroyevich has led numerous research projects in high-capacity power electronic conversion and power supply systems, achieving remarkable innovations in modeling, control, and design optimization of power electronic systems. He has proposed a comprehensive set of modeling and control solutions specifically for multiphase power electronic converters, which are widely applied in fields such as renewable energy generation, power systems, and electrified transportation. As a mentor, he has supervised over 100 doctoral and master’s students and published more than 900 academic papers, receiving six international paper awards and numerous excellence awards in research and teaching.
