On April 24, the Energy Internet Innovation Institute of Tsinghua University (hereinafter referred to as "the Institute") celebrated its ninth anniversary and successfully hosted the Second Forum for High-Quality Development of Energy Think Tank in Room 217 of the West Main Building at Tsinghua University. This forum, part of the university’s anniversary academic activities, was presided over by Gao Wensheng, the Executive Vice President of the Institute.

Speech by Wang Yaohua

Wang Yaohua, Vice President of the State Grid Energy Research Institute, delivered a congratulatory message on behalf of the institute’s think tank. He extended warm congratulations on the ninth anniversary of the Institute and emphasized the critical role of developing new energy as the fundamental solution to the challenges of energy transition. He highlighted the fruitful collaboration between the State Grid Energy Research Institute and Tsinghua University over the years and expressed his hope for deepening cooperation with various experts to contribute to new chapters in the energy and power sectors.

Speech by Yang Xiu

Yang Xiu, Deputy Director of the Tsinghua University Think Tank Center, congratulated the Institute on its achievements over the past nine years. She underscored the significant role of think tanks in modern national governance and praised the Institute as a representative of Tsinghua University’s engineering think tanks, which have supported the construction of a modern national energy system through extensive research. Looking forward, she pointed out the profound changes in global energy governance and the new challenges and opportunities faced by China’s energy system. She reaffirmed the Think Tank Center’s commitment to supporting the Institute’s development, providing comprehensive service guarantees to aid its high-level research and policy consulting, and enhancing its international influence.

Speech by Kang Chongqing

Kang Chongqing, Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics and President of the Institute of Energy Internet Innovation, expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of all colleagues to the higher authorities, cooperative units, and experts who have supported the Institute. He detailed the significant achievements made in collaboration with various units and emphasized the advantages of the Institute’s integrated structure of “one department, two institutes, one lab, one alliance.” He reiterated the Institute’s commitment to leading scientific research with think tank studies, promoting industrial development, actively participating in the national energy and power sector’s “15th Five-Year Plan,” and proactively laying out research on renewable energy development and new energy systems.

Report by Chen Qixin

Chen Qixin, Vice President of the Energy Internet Innovation Institute, presented a report on the work of the energy internet think tank. He covered three main aspects: research focus, think tank branding, and development leadership, and provided an outlook on future work.

Unveiling Ceremony

In response to the national strategy of “accelerating the construction of a national integrated computing power network” and to promote the coordinated development of computing power and green energy, the Institute established the “Computing Power-Power Collaboration Research Team” and held an unveiling ceremony. The unveiling was done by Chen Xueyi, President of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Big Data Research Institute and the Energy Computing Fusion (Hami) Research Institute, Wang Yu, Dean of the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University, Kang Chongqing, Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics at Tsinghua University, and Su Hang, Associate Researcher from the Department of Computer Science at Tsinghua University.

Keynote Reports

During the keynote report session, Rao Jianye, Vice President of the Clean Energy Research Institute of the Electric Power Planning and Design Institute, Jiang Haifeng, Deputy Manager of the Business Department of the Beijing Green Exchange Carbon Trading Center, Dr. Meng Yao from the Energy Internet Innovation Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhang Guosheng, Director of the Energy Strategy Research Institute of the China National Petroleum Corporation, Professor Cheng Lin from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics at Tsinghua University, and Professor Ding Zhaohai from North China Electric Power University delivered reports on various topics, including “Development of New Energy Bases and Industrial Integration,” “Current Status and Prospects of the Voluntary Carbon Market,” “Industrial Green Microgrids Supporting High-Quality Development in Petrochemical, Steel, and Computing Industries,” “Thoughts and Suggestions on Accelerating the Construction of China’s Energy Super Basins,” “Green Microgrids in the Steel Industry: Supporting Green and Low-Carbon Transformation,” and “Industrial Green Microgrids in Data Centers: Collaborative Optimization of Data Centers and Power Systems Under the Dual Carbon Background.”

Energy Think Tank Development Salon

The forum concluded with an energy think tank development salon hosted by Liu Jianming, Chief Scientist of the Institute. Experts discussed and exchanged views on topics such as the development of new production forces in the energy industry and the relationship between green, low-carbon energy development and new industrialization.

The successful hosting of this forum provided a platform for exchange among energy think tanks and strongly supported the high-quality development of energy think tanks. Looking ahead, the  Energy Internet Innovation Institute of Tsinghua University will continue to work closely with all parties to promote deep collaboration among energy think tanks and contribute wisdom and strength to innovation and sustainable development in the energy sector.
