On the afternoon of June 24, the 2023 graduation ceremony of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA), Tsinghua University was held grandly at the Meng Minwei Concert Hall. This graduation ceremony is the first pure offline graduation ceremony held by EEA after the pandemic. All graduates, some teachers, alumni representatives, and student parent representatives of EEA witnessed this sacred and unforgettable moment together. In order to allow more relatives, alumni, and friends to share the joy of the graduates, this ceremony was also broadcasted via online real-time live streaming. The graduation ceremony was hosted by Liu Yuchen and Tang Mingrui, students to be graduated from EEA in 2023. In the solemn and majestic national anthem, the ceremony begins.

Speech by Yu Xinjie, Secretary of Party Committee of EEA

Yu Xinjie, Secretary of the Party Committee of EEA, delivered a warm speech and introduced the employment situation of this year’s graduates. Firstly, he expressed his congratulation to all the graduates, welcomed the presence of all the guests, and thanked those who have been caring and supporting EEA. Then, he introduced the destinations, employment areas and industry distribution of this year’s graduates: in 2023, EEA has a total of 115 undergraduate students, 49 master’s students, and 58 doctoral students graduated, with 100 of them directly employed extensively in 19 provincial-level administrative regions after graduation. From the perspective of industry distribution, power and electrical industry are still the main choices for graduates of our department, showing that our graduates are concerned about the development of the national power and electrical industry and have the willingness to enter the mainstream and step onto the big stage. He congratulated the students on their successful graduation, and hoped that the graduates will strive to become industrial masters, enjoy the solitude of their hearts and maintain an open and inclusive mindset in the marathon of life, embrace their dreams, stay grounded, learn to appreciate and enjoy the process of running with all their might.

Chu Xu, President of the Medical Power Components Division of Shanghai United Imaging Healthcare Co., Ltd., graduated from EEA, Tsinghua University in 1994, delivered a speech on behalf of EEA alumni. He first extended warm congratulations to all graduates and expressed his respect to all the teachers present. Chu Xu reviewed his work history, shared his career choices, shifts in work focus and recent breakthroughs, and encouraged the graduates to cherish their experiences, take each step well, build a solid foundation in knowledge, expand multidisciplinary reserves, and enhance innovation capabilities in cross-disciplinary fields. Chu Xu pointed out that as a man graduated from Tsinghua, one should not only focus on the personal level but also consider the perspective of the country and society, and closely integrate personal development direction with national needs in career planning. In addition, he also pointed out that there are still many shortcomings in China’s basic industries. He hoped that all the graduates present will bravely shoulder the heavy responsibilities entrusted by the times, become the main force of various fields in the future, fill in the existing gaps, and move forward in the direction created by China itself. Speeches by graduate representatives

Doctoral graduate Sun Hao, master graduate Wang Zhiqiang and bachelor graduate Ma Mingchen, delivered speeches on behalf of graduates.

Sun Hao, on behalf of all the doctoral graduates of year 2023, expressed respect and gratitude to all the teachers of EEA, and all the parents, relatives and friends of the graduates. He shared his experiences during his study for a doctoral degree. Facing unfavorable conditions such as the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, he overcame numerous difficulties and ultimately succeeded in realizing the first domestic high-energy-level inductive pulse source system with the guidance and encouragement of his supervisor Professor Yu Xinjie. When he studied in EEA, he gained a deeper understanding of “responsibility” and was also inspired by the selfless dedication of teachers and classmates during his involvement in social work. He encouraged his classmates to further carry forward Tsinghua University’s motto of “Self-discipline and social commitment” and EEA’s spirit of “Strict in studying and upright in behaving” in the future, and not to let their alma mater and teachers down.

Wang Zhiqiang interpreted the spirit of Tsinghua from the perspective of never fearing difficulties but forging ahead, sincerely dedicating to serving the people, cherishing the motherland and rooting in the front line. In combination with his own scientific research, social work, social practice and other experiences, he shared the spirit of struggle, responsibility and dedication that he has felt during his three years of pursuing a master’s degree, and expressed his ambition — to contribute Tsinghua wisdom to the construction of a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system in China. Finally, he once again thanked his teachers, seniors and classmates, and wished that all students could always keep their original aspirations and move forward with courage, releasing the vigorous power contained in Tsinghua spirit on the future path.

Starting from the last class meeting, Ma Mingchen shared his classmates’ unremitting effort in academic pursuits, quality in facing challenges and forging ahead, and spirit of continuous exploration and selfless dedication to ideals in volunteer practice. The sour, sweet, bitter and spicy experiences over the past four years have brought unexpected growth and touched their hearts. The graduation certificate is just a punctuation mark for the undergraduate stage. He believes that his classmates will carry Tsinghua University’s motto of “Self-discipline and social commitment” and EEA’s spirit of “Strict in learning and upright in behaving”, move towards a broader world and write new chapters of a magnificent story.

Then, Yi Chenyi from EEA delivered a speech as a representative of teachers. He first expressed warm congratulations to the graduates for successfully completing their studies and embarking on a new stage of life. He shared his experience in the research process of vacuum deposition of perovskite solar cells. In the face of unsatisfactory experimental results, he still maintained a firm confidence and encouraged his teammates, together delving into the reasons for the failure of the experiment. After days and nights of hard work, they finally achieved a breakthrough in the efficiency of vacuum deposition. Mr. Yi encouraged the students to persevere and maintain a positive attitude when facing difficulties; he hoped that the students will not forget their original intentions, but understand gratitude and cherish the present; he wished the students a bright future in their life and career!

Ms Li Shenling, the mother of Li Ziyue, a bachelor graduate from EEA, delivered a speech as a parent representative. She said that the speech by Mr. Yu Xinjie at the New Students Exchange Meeting and the New Semester Opening Ceremony has filled her with confidence in her child’s future learning and life in Tsinghua. She expresses heartfelt thanks to all the teachers and counselors of EEA on behalf of all the parents. Amidst warm applause, Kang Chongqing, Dean of EEA, took the stage and first extended his warmest congratulations to all the graduates. He reviewed the achievements of the teachers and students of EEA over the past year and shared the glorious results of the teachers in education, team building and scientific research. Then, he stated that whether in academic research, social service, sports competition or in artistic activities, the students had fully demonstrated the enthusiasm of the contemporary youth. It was the students of EEA who have made remarkable achievements in various fields and contributed to the progress of EEA at each step.

Subsequently, Mr. Kang cleverly deliver three messages to the students with three pairs of keywords “vector” and “scalar”, “withstanding” and “breakdown” and “consuming” and “supplying” in the discipline of electrical engineering: First, find the vector of life accurately as a guide for progress, continuously accumulate scalar steps, climb upward step by step, and become a person with goals, actions, perseverance and achievements; Second, maintain a positive and optimistic attitude, continuously improve the ability to withstand pressure, bravely face external pressures, forge ahead towards distant goals and never be broken down by various strikes; Third, always maintain the rigorous and diligent work style of Tsinghua people, keep constant self-supply, consume new knowledge, fully exert knowledge and skills in work, and provide unique strength to society in critical moments.
