In order to quickly implement the new province-university and city-university cooperation agreements signed by Tsinghua University, Sichuan Province and Chengdu City, on March 26, the “6th Tsinghua-Sichuan Scientific and Technological Achievement Matchmaking Conference in 2023 — ‘Common Development of University and Enterprises · Search Potential and Opportunity’, Technological Achievement Matchmaking Conference for Tsinghua University — Roadshow of Technological Achievements of Tsinghua University” was successfully held in Chengdu Tianfu International Conference Center. Nearly 300 people from relevant government departments, Tsinghua University and Tsinghua Alumni Association, project roadshow companies, important companies, investment and financing institutions, news media and other fields came to explore the “Sichuan experience” in the transformation of Tsinghua University’s achievements. More than 20,000 people watched this grand event online simultaneously through video and graphic-text live broadcast.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Wang Yan, Dean of the Technology Transfer Research Institute of Tsinghua University. Li Guogui, Deputy Director of the Organization Department and Director of the Provincial Talent Office of Sichuan Provincial Party Committee, Zhao Min, member of the Party Group of Sichuan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Agency, Xian Rongsheng, member of the Standing Committee of Chengdu Municipal Party Committee, and member of the Party Group of the Municipal Government, and Zeng Rong, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Tsinghua University, delivered speeches successively.

Li Guogui said in his speech that, as the first university to sign a contract of strategic cooperation with Sichuan Province, Tsinghua University has offered cutting-edge innovative technology and high-level talents to Sichuan. With the signing of new province-university cooperation agreements, the two sides have reached an important consensus on strengthening collaborative innovation, close teacher contact, promoting talent exchange, and deepening university-enterprise co-development, which will effectively upgrade the strategic cooperation between Sichuan Province and Tsinghua University.

In his speech, Xian Rongsheng reviewed the results of the city-university cooperation between Tsinghua University and Chengdu in recent years. He said that this year, Chengdu will regard the transformation of scientific and technological achievements as the No. 1 project of the city’s scientific and technological innovation work, and will take various measures to coordinate the implementation of scientific and technological achievements transformation projects. He hoped that Chengdu City could strengthen friendly cooperation with Tsinghua, join force of scientific innovation, collect more innovation resources in Chengdu, and promote the actualization of more achievements in Chengdu.

In his speech, Zeng Rong took Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, China Jinping Underground Laboratory and Tsinghua graduates to Sichuan as examples to introduce the win-win situation of province-university cooperation of “multiple-point blossoming and harvest”, he hoped that Tsinghua could carry out all-round in-depth cooperation with Sichuan Province and Chengdu City at a higher level, in a wider range and in more fields, so as to support Sichuan’s high-quality economic and social development with higher-quality cooperation results.

Zhang Ping, member of the Party Group and Deputy Director of Chengdu Investment Promotion Bureau, introduced Chengdu’s investment environment in detail from the dimensions of Chengdu’s urban energy level, spatial layout, industrial system, traffic location, business environment and quality of life, and he hoped that more Tsinghua alumni and entrepreneurs could invest in Chengdu, share new opportunities for urban development and share the future for cooperation.

The keynote reporting session was hosted by Professor Kang Chongqing, Dean of EEA, Tsinghua University and President of Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute. Professor He Kebin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, President of the Carbon Neutral Research Institute of Tsinghua University, and Director of the Academic Committee of Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory, took “Regional Atmospheric Environment Regulation Technology and Its Application in Chengdu” as the title, described how the regional atmospheric environment regulation technology can be used for air pollution control from the perspectives of technology research and development, application of results and future outlook etc., and mainly introduced the innovative practice and application results of this technology in Chengdu.

Professor Wang Jianmin, Dean of the School of Software and Deputy Dean of the School of Information, Tsinghua University, delivered a keynote report titled “Industrial Basic Software and Challenges”, starting from the connotation and classification of industrial basic software, he analyzed the development trend and “bottleneck” problems of China’s industrial basic software, and mainly shared the innovative products developed by the School of Software, Tsinghua University and the State Research Center for Big Data System Software in solving the “bottleneck” problems.

Zhao Yanlai, Deputy Director of the Operating Asset Management Office of Tsinghua University and General Manager of Tianfu Qingyuan Holdings Co., Ltd., took “Sharing of Transformation of Scientific and Technological Achievements” as the title, sorted out the relevant processes and norms of the transformation of scientific and technological achievements in detail, pointed out that technological leadership, industrial integration, capital boost and spatial support are important factors to promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and emphasized that the successful transformation of scientific and technological achievements cannot be separated from the collaboration of scientists and entrepreneurs.

In order to attract well-known Tsinghua alumni enterprises to focus on Chengdu and support Tsinghua alumni enterprises to develop in Chengdu, a special alumni entrepreneur matchmaking meeting was held, and more than 30 Tsinghua alumni entrepreneurs and innovation teams were invited to talk with officers from Chengdu Science and Technology Bureau, Chengdu Investment Promotion Bureau, Chengdu Economic and Information Technology Bureau and relevant district (cities) and counties on innovative cooperation in talent recruitment, policy docking and project implementation, etc.

The Project Roadshow kicked off with the appearance of 4 innovative projects at the main venue, followed by the scientific and technological achievements matching salon of “Common Development of University and Enterprises · Search Potential and Opportunity” in two venues namely “Digital Economy and Electronic Information” and “Green Low Carbon and Great Health”. 16 innovative projects from departments, local institutes, dispatched institutes and alumni enterprises of Tsinghua University were presented at the roadshow. Representatives from leading enterprises, investment and financing institutions were invited to serve as on-site judges, evaluating and guiding these projects from the perspectives of project industrialization, market expansion plan and capital needs.

In addition, nearly 200 innovative achievements of Tsinghua University and Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute were released at the conference in the form of project manuals, covering six major fields including electronic information, energy and environment, biomedicine, advanced manufacturing, new materials, and transport planning.

On March 15, Tsinghua University signed the “Agreement on Deepening Industry-University-Research Institute Integration and Development between Tsinghua University and Sichuan People’s Government” and “Agreement on Comprehensively Expanded Cooperation between Tsinghua University and Chengdu Municipal People’s Government” with Sichuan Province and Chengdu City respectively, opening a new era for province-university and city-university cooperation. This event was an important measure to implement the first round of province-university and city-university cooperation agreements and reinforce the transformation of Tsinghua University’s innovative achievements in Sichuan. It effectively promoted the precise matching between Tsinghua’s innovative resources and industries in cities and prefectures in Sichuan, boosted the coordinated development industry-university-research institute and supported the “synchronization of four modernizations, integration of urban and rural areas, and joint prosperity of five districts” in Sichuan.
