On November 26, the 7th Forum for Ph.D. of Engineering of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) of Tsinghua University and the 1st Tsinghua-Peking University Joint Academic Salon for Ph.D. of Engineering were successfully held online. The forum was co-hosted by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics of Tsinghua University and the College of Engineering of Peking University, aiming to promote academic exchanges and training of Ph.D of engineering between the two sides, and build an open and high-level platform for exchange. More than 170 teachers and students, including Professor Xiao Xi, Deputy Dean of the Graduate School of Tsinghua University, Professor Xiao Yunfeng, Deputy Dean of the Graduate School of Peking University, Professor Kang Chongqing, Dean of EEA, Professor Song Jie, Deputy Dean of the College of Engineering, Peking University, Professor He Feng, Director of the Academic Degree Office of the Graduate School of Peking University, Professor Zhu Guiping, Deputy Dean of EEA, Professor Lu Chao, Professor He Jinliang, Director of the Academic Committee, and Professor Shen Chen, Chairman of the Academic Degree Sub-committee, as well as supervisors of Ph.D. of engineering of EEA including Professor Li Yongdong, Professor Liang Xidong, Professor Sun Hongbin, Professor Chai Jianyun, Professor Jiang Xiaohua, Professor Dong Xinzhou, Professor Zhou Yuanxiang and Professor Liu Weidong, et al, attended the forum. In his speech, Professor Xiao Xi elaborated on Tsinghua’s orientation of training for innovative leading Ph.D. of engineering. He said that this academic forum jointly held by the two universities will help promote the interdisciplinarity for Ph.D. of engineering between the two universities, expand academic horizons, and enhance innovation capabilities. He hoped that the teachers and students of the two universities will fully demonstrate themselves and learn from each other, collide with sparks of thought, and make new progress and gains.

Professor Xiao Yunfeng said that EEA of Tsinghua University and the College of Engineering of Peking University have their own characteristics in the cultivation of Ph.D. of engineering, and he looked forward to close exchanges, mutual reference, cooperation, complementarity and joint advancement. He also hoped that the students will enhance understanding, learn from each other and explore opportunities for further cooperation during this exchange.

In his speech, Professor Kang Chongqing encouraged students to share and discuss deeply through reports at this forum, so as to inspire each other’s thoughts, broaden their academic horizons, and achieve win-win cooperation. He hoped that EEA of Tsinghua University and the College of Engineering of Peking University will take this forum as an opportunity to work together and develop a long-term and stable cooperative relationship in future talent training, scientific research, and international education.

Professor Song Jie introduced the history and characteristics of the College of Engineering of Peking University, as well as the current status of the training of Ph.D. of engineering in the College of Engineering, and looked forward to further cooperation with EEA in some important areas in the future. Through this activity, the two sides can jointly embark on a new path, promote engineering with science and back-promote science with engineering. She also hoped that the Ph.D. of engineering can use this academic salon to communicate extensively, stimulate innovative thinking, promote future project cooperation and jointly expand new fields of cooperation.

In the expert report session, Professor Li Yongdong brought a wonderful report titled “2nd Electronics and Energy Revolution and Application in Land, Sea, Sky and Submarine Fields”, detailed the history and current situation of the second electronics and energy revolution, and especially made a systematic and comprehensive explanation for the broad application of modern power electronics technology in the future.

In the session of reports by Ph.D. of engineering, Zeng Nan, a Ph.D. of engineering of EEA of Tsinghua University admitted in 2021, made a special report titled “Key Technologies and Engineering Realization of Trusted Interaction of Source, Network, Load and Storage Based on Blockchain”; Yang Meng, a Ph.D. of engineering of the College of Engineering of Peking University admitted in 2021, made a report titled “Enterprises Digitalization and Intelligentization Empowered by Wutong Big Data of China Mobile”; Sun Gang, a Ph.D. of engineering of EEA of Tsinghua University admitted in 2020, made a report titled “A Study on the Feasibility of Producing Hydrogen with surplus New Energy to Build New Power Systems”; Chen Yingliang, a Ph.D. of engineering of the College of Engineering of Peking University admitted in 2021, made a report titled “High-efficiency Special Motor Technology for Underwater Equipment”; Zhou Jie, a Ph.D. of engineering of EEA of Tsinghua University admitted in 2021, made a report titled “Preliminary Exploration for Hyperpolarized C13MRI Imaging”; Shao Ping, a Ph.D. of engineering of the College of Engineering of Peking University admitted in 2021, made a report titled “Innovation and Practice of Industrial Digital Finance”; Fu Junyin, a Ph.D. of engineering of EEA of Tsinghua University admitted in 2021, made a report titled “A Study on Silicon Carbide MOSFET Reliability Risk Monitoring Mechanism and Application”. The reports made by the seven Ph.D. of engineering fully demonstrated their research results and thesis progress, the supervisors made wonderful comments on the reports and gave many valuable suggestions. During the exchange session, the Ph.D. of engineering from both sides learned from each other through heated discussion and wonderful collision of thinking, which pushed the forum to a climax.
The successful holding of this forum provided a rare opportunity for exchange and cooperation for Ph.D. of engineering from EEA of Tsinghua University and the College of Engineering of Peking University. The forum has not only strengthened the close link among students, but also played an important role in enhancing EEA’s management of training process for Ph.D. of engineering and improving the training quality.
“EEA’s Forum for Ph.D. of Engineering” is an academic exchange platform for teachers and students regularly held by EEA for Ph.D. of engineering. The forum encourages students to report their progress of thesis, present their research results, stimulate innovative thinking and promote project cooperation. Since December 2020, EEA has successfully held six forums in Beijing, Changzhou, Qingdao, Chengdu (online), Fuzhou (online) and Xining. The 7th forum was held online due to the pandemic.
