On October 25, 2022, Walter Tega, President of Academy of Sciences of Bologna Institute, Italy, sent a congratulatory letter to Professor He Jinliang of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) of Tsinghua University: “On October 11, 2022, the General Assembly of the Academy of Sciences of Bologna Institute unanimously agreed to grant you the title of Foreign Corresponding Academician in natural sciences. I believe that your academic achievements and talents, which are well known and appreciated by the scientific community, will help to improve the quality of initiatives of our ancient academic association.”
Academicians of the Academy of Sciences of Bologna Institute, Italy are divided into two classes: physical sciences and moral sciences. The class of physical sciences include section of mathematics, physics, chemistry and geography, section of engineering sciences, section of life sciences and section of medical sciences. Professor He Jinliang is the first Chinese academician of the class of natural sciences in the history of the Academy. In 2022, the Academy of Sciences of Bologna Institute elected three foreign academicians, the other two are the famous urban architecture and design expert Professor Carlo Ratti from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and the famous philosopher Mariani Zini Fosca from Université Francois Rabelais.
Bologna is the birthplace of “university”. Being founded in 1690, the Academy of Sciences of Bologna Institute has a history spanning more than three centuries. Among its Members one can number famous foreign scientists as Albert Einstein and Marie Curie, to name a few. In the 1920s, the Academy of Sciences of Bologna Institute and the National Academy of Lincei were once merged into the Royal Academy of Italy, which was dissolved in 1943, and the two Academies were separated as the “two Academies” of Italy.
