On the afternoon of September 13, President Wang Xiqin went to the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) to discuss the construction and development of the department. More than 30 EEA teachers, including EEA Dean Kang Chongqing, EEAs Party Committee Secretary Yu Xinjie, CAS Academician Lu Qiang and CAE Academician Han Yingduo, participated in the discussion.

In his speech, Wang Xiqin fully affirmed EEAs development achievement since the Department was establishment 90 years ago, and answered the questions raised by teachers one by one. He said that EEA has not only made important contributions to the University in terms of personnel training and scientific research, but also played an active role in the formation of the university spirit, discipline style and other spiritual culture. Facing the rapid differentiation of disciplines and majors, he hoped that EEA should accurately recognize changes and respond to changes scientifically, especially to actively seek changes: one is to seize the opportunity of cooperation with leading enterprises and localities in the industry, expand the depth and breadth of cooperation, explore new national systems, drive economic and social development with excellent scientific and technological achievements, and form a long-term win-win cooperation mechanism for resource sharing; the second is to seize the opportunity of the department cultivating model in the Basic Discipline Strengthening Plan, optimize the cultivation scheme, improve the cultivation mechanism, and constantly explore new paths for talent training in EEA; the third is to seize the new opportunities arising from the reform of national key laboratories, aim at major national strategic needs and industry frontiers, give full play to Tsinghua’s talent advantages and multidisciplinary advantages, and promote the realization of new development of disciplines .

Kang Chongqing made a report on the outline of EEAs development and construction in three parts: construction achievement in recent years, major challenges and historical opportunities, governance system and development plans. The participants conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the advancement of discipline construction towards the forefront of the industry, the expansion of scientific research opportunities in combination with the construction of national key laboratories, and the reform of talent training models.

Prof. Lu Qiang said that over the past 90 years, EEAs main achievements can be summarized into two points, one is to meet the needs of the country, and the other is to meet the needs of the people. Professor Han Yingduo analyzed the major development opportunities that EA is facing, and called on EEAs teachers and students to aim at strategic, forward-looking, and industry-marked research topics and set out cases. Prof. Min Yong expressed his views on the labor, financial and material needs of the national key laboratories in the initial stage, as well as the relationship and positioning between the national key laboratories and EEA. Prof. He Jinliang said that in the face of the current major development opportunities, EEA’s research at various levels such as materials, devices, equipment, and systems has shown good signs, but at the same time, it is necessary to further solve problems such as laboratory space and personnel. Prof. Mei Shengwei introduced the experience of counterpart support and cooperation in Qinghai University in the past ten years, and the reference significance of this model for the development of team scientific research. Associate Prof. Zhang Pinjia said that as a young teacher, he has enjoyed the dividends of the universitys reform, and will redouble his efforts in the university’s 2030 strategic plan to help EEA constitute world-class disciplines.
