On the afternoon of September 2, the Young Teachers’ Salon in 2022 and the Annual Meeting of “Young Teacher Career Development Mentoring System” of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) were held in Meeting Room 102, Zone 3, West Main Building. More than 20 people, including Guo Qinglai, Deputy Director of the Teacher Development Center, Kang Chongqing, Dean of EEA, Yu Xinjie, Secretary of EEA’s Party Committee, and Wu Wenchuan, Deputy Secretary of EEA’s Party Committee, as well as the first and second batches of career development mentors and newly recruited young teachers participated. At the meeting, Yu Xinjie, Secretary of EEA’s Party Committee, firstly introduced the setting goals and implementation plan of the career development mentoring system for young teachers in EEA. In order to fully mobilize teachers’ development resources and care the growth of young teachers, a group of teachers or external experts with sufficient experience and abilities who are interested in teacher development work will be assigned to provide in-depth guidance for young teachers, aiming to help young teachers adapt to the working environment, realize role change, develop professional abilities, and effectively promote personal growth. In addition, he summarized the results of the implementation of the “Young Teachers Career Development Mentoring System” last year, and conveyed EEA leaders’ opinions on the “Young Teachers Career Development Mentoring System”.

Then, the first batch of young teachers Fu Yangyang, Ji Shiqi and Wu Jinpeng delivered speeches respectively. They summed up their own growth and gains, and especially thanked the Teacher Development Center and EEA for their care and assistance to young teachers. Next they will go on asking other senior teachers humbly for advice. Sun Kai, Assistant t o the Dean of EEA, also one of the first batch of mentors, said that the mentoring system is a powerful measure to accurately cultivate young teachers. It is an honor and a responsibility to be the first batch of mentors for young teachers in the department. As a mentor, he will provide “three helps” for young teachers, one is to ask what their goals are and help them establish and achieve their goals; the second is to formulate plans and help young teachers make up for their shortcomings; the third is to choose suitable starting points and provide teaching and scientific research assistance for young teachers. Finally, Kang Chongqing announced five new young teachers and their career development mentors in 2022, and expressed his best wishes. Guo Qinglai and Yu Xinjie jointly granted letters of appointment to the first batch of young teachers’ career development mentors.

Guo Qinglai said that the distinctive “Young Teacher Career Development Mentoring System” has brought a good effect in EEA last year, and similar systems are now developed in other departments this year. He wish each newly recruited young teacher could further develop themselves with the care of the mentors.

The young teachers who participated in the salon spoke enthusiastically, and everyone expressed his own feelings and ideas about the career development mentor system for young teachers. Mr. Zhao Zhengming put forward five suggestions, the first is to recognize the importance of direction; the second is to do real research in the own professional field; the third is to focus on cultivating the team, hoping that everyone can lead the team to make progress together; the fourth is to actively participate in public welfare activities in addition to study; the fifth is to improve the mentoring system together.

Finally, Kang Chongqing, Dean of EEA, pointed out in his concluding remarks that he would like to thank the Teacher Development Center for fully trusting in EEA and using EEA as a test field for the mentoring system of the whole university. He hoped that the five newly recruited teachers should strictly abide by Tsinghua’s standards, continue to cultivate and make progress in their respective professional fields, and strive to become qualified Tsinghua teacher; at last, he also emphasized that as a tutor, he will lead the team to make progress together by teaching, helping and leading.
