On June 27, full of enthusiasm and eagerness, the Sichuan production practice detachment of undergraduate students admitted to the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) of Tsinghua University successfully arrived at Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute and Tsinghua University (hereinafter referred to as the “Research Institute”) and started a four-week practice journey. 47 students entered 12 research teams of the institute to carry out practice according to their own research interests.

At the kick-off meeting of the practice, Wang Jia, director of the education and training center of the institute, extended a warm welcome to the practice detachment on behalf of the institute. She said that students’ social practice is a fine tradition of Tsinghua University, and it is an important way for the university to implement the “three-in-one” talent training model of value shaping, ability training, and knowledge imparting. As the practice base of EEA, the Institute will provide the students with high-quality practice topics, a first-class team of instructors, and a guarantee of comfortable living conditions, hoping that everyone will apply the theoretical knowledge in the book to practice and comprehensively improve the ability to solve practical problems.
Wang Deyan, the leading teacher of the EEA team, put forward requirements for the students in the detachment, hoping that everyone will seize the opportunity to practice, integrate into the team as soon as possible, communicate in depth, and complete the project in time and quantity. Li Zhi, a senior student admitted to EEA in 1996 and the director of the Institute of Integrated Simulation and Intelligent Operation and Maintenance of Transmission and Distribution Equipment of the Research Institute, shared his practical experience with the students at the meeting, hoping the students will cherish every out-of-book “wild question” encountered in practice.

The scientific research teams that accept the students will assign practical tutors to guide the whole process of project research according to the students’ professional knowledge reserves, research interests and hands-on ability. On July 8, Professor Kang Chongqing, Dean of EEA and Director of the Research Institute, visited the teachers and students of the practice detachment. After kindly asking the students about their study and living conditions in the institute, he hoped that the students could abide by the discipline of practice, complete the project research efficiently and rigorously, achieve an organic combination of theoretical knowledge and practice, and practice Tsinghua University’s scientific research tenet of “Top-to-sky, down-to-earth and self-nurturing” so as to learn for use and learn to use.

On July 17, the Education and Training Center responded positively to the local epidemic in Chengdu, adjusted the plan in a timely manner, turned all practical activities in the last week to online activities, and organized all the teachers and students of the detachment to conduct nucleic acid test and complete the return trip arrangement as soon as possible. On the 20th, with the arrival of the last “Returned back safely” text message, all the teachers and students of the detachment returned to their homes safely and smoothly.

On July 25, the Education and Training Center organized 12 scientific research teams and corresponding students to conduct an online defense meeting on practice topics in groups. Each group of students made a rigorous and exciting final report on the selected topic, and the practice instructors also made comments and suggestions on the students’ work results one by one.

During the practice, the students generally said that they had gained a lot from the practice, and expressed their sincere gratitude to the practice instructors for their careful guidance. By participating in the research work of specific topics, everyone not only expanded their knowledge, but also established an intuitive understanding of scientific research work.
