At the same time,we would like to extendoursincerest greetings to all alumni and friends from all walks of life who support and care about the development of “OneDepartment andTwoInstitutes”. We wisheveryonegood health, smooth work and a happy family in the new year!

2021was an extraordinary year. We jointly celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 110th anniversary of the founding of Tsinghua University,ushering inthe first year of the “14th Five-Year Plan”.The “OneDepartment andTwoInstitutes”, supported by the university andpeoplefrom all walks of life, based on the fundamentals of electrical engineering disciplines, and guided by in-depth interdisciplinary and extensive industry applications,has formed amodel of complementary advantages and coordinated development and achieved gratifying results inmultiple dimensionsof cutting-edge basic research, think tank service, and industrial incubation.

General Secretary Xi Jinping has successively put forward important expositions such as “dual carbon goals”, “building a new power system with new energy as the main body”, and “accelerating the construction of a unified national power market system”. This is both abig challenge and angreat opportunity for us. Looking back on the past year, the “OneDepartment andTwoInstitutes”, has actively responded to the important instructions of the general secretary with practical actions,and wasguided by the major strategic needs of the country and taking servingsociety as their own responsibility topromote the research of new power systems, strengthen the research and development of low-carbon energy technologies,and constantlyexploreinnovative solutions in the energy field, contributing “Tsinghua wisdom” to the low-carbon sustainable development ofthesociety:wereleased the “Annual Development Report onEnergy Internet” and “Technical Report on New-typePower Systems”, and successfully completed theGrid-incorporation of the State Test and Demonstration Project ofSalt Cave Compressed Air Energy Storagein Jintan, make thekey technology of large-capacity DCbreaking and the serialized high,medium and low voltage DC circuit breakers pass the appraisal of scientific and technological achievements,successively put theworld first panoramic intelligent monitoring system for transmission lines into operation,andpromotedthe first “All-fieldcarbonmetering— All-chain carbon responding— All-scenario carbonfootprint”demonstrationproject, etc. These aretheachievements ofopen cooperation and joint efforts of all colleagues.

In 2022, we will celebrate the 90th anniversary of thefounding of the Department of Electrical Engineering and innovation is the best inheritance. While learning from the historical contributions of generations ofpeople of the Department of Electrical Engineering,we must undertake the new missionassigned bythe new era, meet new challenges with new thinking, carry forward the spirit of hard working, truth-seeking and pragmatism, pioneering and innovative,self-discipline andsocialcommitment, andrealize the national beautiful visionin future energy industry.
