Recently at the 24th Academic Annual Conference of the China Power Supply Society, Wang Kui of the Institute of Power Electronics and Electrical Systems of the Department of Electrical Engineeringand Applied Electronicswasgrantedthe Outstanding Youth Award of the Science and Technology Awards of the China Power Supply Society, and was invited to make a special topic at the “Young Talents Forum ofPower Supply”.
The Science and Technology Awards of the China Power Supply Societyare the topmost science and technology awardsapproved by the Ministry of Science and Technology and registered with theChinese Office ofScience and Technology Awards to reward individuals and organization who have made outstanding contributions toscientific research, technological innovation, new product development and achievement promotion and applications in the field of power supplyof China. They represent the highest level of science and technology development in China, and a total of 19 persons have won the Outstanding Youth Awards since the establishment in 2011.
Dr. Wang Kui isnow an assistant researcher of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics, deputy director of the Institute of Power Electronics and Electrical Systems, and concurrently a visiting professor of Division 712 of the National Key Laboratory of DefenseTechnologyof Ship Integrated Power Technology, and deputy secretary of the Transport Electrification Committee of the Chinese Power Supply Society,andseniorFellowof IEEE.He was born in Ezhou City, Hubei Province in 1984, heentered the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University in 2002 and received a degree of Ph.D. in engineering in 2011. He has stayed on the schoolas teachersince 2013.Funded by the China Scholarship Councilfrom 2019 to 2019, he visited the CURRENT Center of the University ofTennessee, USA for exchange.
Dr. Wang Kui is mainly engaged in the research ontopology, modulation and control technology of multi-level power electronic converters, state monitoring, fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control technology of multi-phase/multi-level motor drive systems, and high-efficiency control of power electronic transformers, etc. Hisresearch received support from many national projects,he haspresidedover 3projects of the ChineseNational Natural Science Foundation (2 in general, 1foryouth), 2projects ofBeijing Natural Science Foundation (1 in general and1 foryouth) and3 projects ofthe State Key Laboratory Foundation. He is also financially supported by thefirst-level fund from theChinese Postdoctoral Science Foundation, andhe hasundertaken more than 10projects for preliminary development ofequipment and projects commissioned by enterprises. He haspublished more than 100 SCI/EI papers,including nearly 30 SCI papers on IEEE Trans and other top international journals as the first author or corresponding author and 1 highly cited ESI paper. He was granted 10 Chinese invention patents and 2 US patents as the first inventor;Hewon the First Prize of Science and Technology ProgressAwardof China Power Supply Societyin 2020,and theSecond Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award oftheMinistry of Education.The related technologieswere successfully applied in the construction of very-lowfrequency transmitters forsubmarine communication, medium voltagefrequency converters for integrated power supply ofChinaStateShipbuilding Corporation, and the construction of comprehensive laboratoryformulti-electric aircraftofCommercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd., and they have been industrialized by enterprises such asHangzhou Mobius Tech Co., Ltd., Shenyang Yuanda Power Electronics, andGuangdong Mingyang Electric, etc. with great academic influence andbenefits innational defense and economy.
