On October 15, the 2020 Annual Alumni Meeting of Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University was successfully held at Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, Tsinghua University. This annual meeting, hosted by the Branch of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua Alumni Association and the Sichuan (Chengdu) Alumni Association of Tsinghua University and organized by Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute of Tsinghua University, aims to report the progress of the Department work to the schoolmates of the same department, and concentrates the strength of the whole department on promoting the development of electrical engineering and industry. Nearly 200 Tsinghua alumni from Tsinghua Alumni Association, Branch of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua Alumni Association, Sichuan (Chengdu) Alumni Association of Tsinghua University, Department of Electrical Engineering and other schools and departments of Tsinghua University attended the meeting, recalling the past of same classes, and sharing the friendship of the same department. In addition, more than 80,000 netizens watched the grand event online through the live broadcast platform released by Sichuan. The meeting was divided into two phases, presided over by Professor Yu Xinjie, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Vice President of the Branch of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua Alumni Association, and associate professor Zheng Zedong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Secretary-General of the Branch of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua Alumni Association.

Shi Zongkai is making a speech

On behalf of Tsinghua University and Tsinghua Alumni Association, Shi Zongkai congratulated the alumni of the Department of Electrical Engineering on the holding of the annual meeting, and expressed his greetings to the alumni of the Department of Electrical Engineering. In his speech, he mentioned that the Department of Electrical Engineering is one of the first three engineering departments established by Tsinghua University, which has cultivated a large number of outstanding alumni and contributed a lot to the modernization of China. The majority of teachers, undergraduates and graduates must continue to play a demonstrating and leading role in contributing to the brilliance of Tsinghua in the new century.

Yan Jiajin is making a speech

In his speech, Yan Jiajin briefly reviewed his growth in the Department of Electrical Engineering. He said that the Department of Electrical Engineering, as one of the oldest departments of Tsinghua, has deep traditions and unique resources, young alumni should carry forward the traditions of Tsinghua University, cherish the precious time, condense feelings for Tsinghua and the Department of Electrical Engineering into the strength of actions and make due contributions to the "Double First-Class" construction of Tsinghua University. Sichuan (Chengdu) Alumni Association of Tsinghua University will also strengthen the exchanges and cooperation with the Alumni Association of the Department of Electrical Engineering, and further do well in alumni service.

Shi Dinghuan is making a speech

Shi Dinghuan, a representative of the alumni of other departments and schools of Tsinghua University who has been engaged in renewable energy research for many years, mentioned in his speech that China is the largest country in energy consumption and production, and before we enter the new energy era based on renewable energies as soon as possible, we must implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's thought on the new strategy for energy revolution and never forget Tsinghua people’s belief in serving the country, and he hoped that the electrical engineering scholars can be important participants in the great rejuvenation of the People's Republic of China and contribute solid strength to the energy revolution in different positions.

Li Licheng is making a speech

Academician Li Licheng spoke highly of the uplifting spirit of the young alumni from the Department of Electrical Engineering. In his speech, he said that the Department of Electrical Engineering is "old" but not conservative, it has carried out a lot of new exploratory work including energy Internet, made a lot of contributions in related fields, and won many honours, he hoped that the Department of Electrical Engineering can always stay in the forefront of scientific and technological innovation and make more globally influencing scientific and technological achievements.

Kang Chongqing is introducing the work progress of the Department of Electrical Engineering

Then, Professor Kang Chongqing, the dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University and the President of the Branch of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua Alumni Association, reported on the work progress of the Department on behalf of the Department of Electrical Engineering. Professor Kang Chongqing firstly reported on the development of the Department of Electrical Engineering in recent years from five aspects: improving the governance system, advancing collaborative research, strengthening moral integrity, exchanges and cooperation, and epidemic prevention and control, and mainly on the work progress of "One department and two schools” and the constitution of the alumni association. Professor Kang Chongqing introduced that the Department of Electrical Engineering is about to participate in the preparations for the 110th anniversary of the University and the 90th anniversary of the Department, and he hoped that the majority of alumni from the Department of Electrical Engineering could provide suggestions and supports for the development of the Department.

Establishment Ceremony of the Southwest Branch of the Sichuan (Chengdu) Alumni Association of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University

At the meeting, witnessed by all guests and alumni of the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Southwest Branch of the Sichuan (Chengdu) Alumni Association of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University was formally established. Shi Zongkai, Vice President of Tsinghua Alumni Association, and Fei Yonggang, Vice President of the Sichuan (Chengdu) Alumni Association of Tsinghua University, issued letters of appointment for members of the Southwest Branch Council to 10 alumni from the Department of Electrical Engineering, including Yan Jiajin and Gao Wensheng. Under the guidance of the Tsinghua Alumni Association and the Sichuan (Chengdu) Alumni Association of the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Southwest Branch of the Alumni Association of the Department of Electrical Engineering is established to strengthen the connections among alumni in the southwest region, between alumni and the Department of Electrical Engineering with Tsinghua University, provide a platform for exchanges and cooperation among alumni, carry forward the outstanding traditions of Tsinghua University and jointly contribute to the development and construction of Southwest China.

Alumni take the stage to share their experiences and insights

For all alumni, it's unforgettable that they've read in the same classroom. In the subsequent speech and discussion sessions, 20 alumni from the Department of Electrical Engineering, including Zhou Shuangxi, Guan Zhicheng, Wei Zhaofeng, Guo Liang, Qian Sujin, Zhou Aiguo, Chen Qinghua, An Jun, Wang Xiaohai, Zhou Yuanxiang, Wu Jinglong, Peng Shuangqun, Zhang Lan, Xu Guozheng, Gao Hong, Yu Xinjie, Zhang Yun, Gao Feng, Yang Gaofeng and He Yihao took the stage one by one and shared their unforgettable experiences in the Department of Electrical Engineering and their insights in personal career.

Four groups of alumni are visiting the scene

It is worth mentioning that the participating alumni were divided into four groups, namely "Inheritance" (Grade 1960-1989), "Development" (Grade 1990-2000), and "Entrepreneurial" (Grade 2001-2005), "Departure" (Grade 2006-2016), and visited the scientific research achievement exhibition hall, the energy internet system and the key equipment lab of Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute of Tsinghua University. In the scientific research achievement exhibition hall, the participating alumni learned in detail about the innovative achievement in the fields of clean energy consumption and smart basin, and smart and efficient energy use, as well as the construction of the test platform, and intuitively touched the achievement of the "One department and two schools" of the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Since its establishment in 1932, the Department of Electrical Engineering, as one of the earliest engineering schools and departments established in Tsinghua University, has been based on imparting knowledge, educating people, constructing subjects and innovating in scientific research and aiming at the development target of Tsinghua University before gradually became an internationalized and outstanding department of talents, disciplines and scientific research and cultivated a large number of academic masters, entrepreneurs and political leaders taking the responsibility for national prosperity and rejuvenation in the past 90 years, and developed into a training base for high-quality talents and a scientific research base in the electric power field of China.
