On the afternoon of August 27, the completion, test and acceptance meeting of the scientific and technological project "Research on Integrated Energy Management System in Beike Industrial Park" organized by the Science and Information Department of China Power International Development Co., Ltd. was held in Beike Industrial Park, and the world first IEMS developed under the host of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University passed the on-site test and acceptance.

In the test and acceptance meeting

The test and acceptance meeting was presided over by Tian Dingjin, General Manager of the Science and Information Department of China Power International Development Co., Ltd., and totally 20 people from the project completing organization including 7 test and acceptance experts including Professor Xia Mingchao from Beijing Jiaotong University, Deputy General Manager Nie Lei from China Power Intelligence Integration, and others from Tsinghua University, China Power International Development Co., Ltd., and China Power Smart Energy Co., Ltd. attended the meeting. The project team members of Tsinghua University and China Power Smart Energy made their work reports, demonstrated the achievement and application, organized the on-site inspections, and comprehensively introduced the project to the test and acceptance expert committee.

The IEMS system of Beike Industrial Park consists of an energy management system support platform, providing functions including multi-energy flow online information monitoring, multi-energy flow network modelling, multi-energy flow situation sensing, multi-energy flow optimizing and scheduling, multi-energy flow safety estimating and early warning, multi-energy virtual power plants and so on, connected to the real-time operating data of various energy equipment such as internal combustion engine, lithium bromide refrigeration, gas boiler, screw compressor, electric refrigeration, photovoltaic power generation, wind power generation, electric energy storage, power grid, heating network, cooling network and so on, realizes the integrated graphic-model-library modelling covering electricity, heat, cooling, gas and other forms of energy, multi-scenario adapted multi-energy online park state estimation and energy flow analysis, and can reasonably dispatch and distribute energy and effectively reduce the comprehensive energy cost in the park in consideration of optimized dispatch and closed-loop control with user flexibility and thermal inertia.

Having listened to the reports, the test and acceptance experts highly affirmed the technological breakthroughs and great benefits which IEMS has made in improving the operation control level and the resource utilization efficiency of the multi-energy flow integrated energy system, and further made queries and answers with the project team on relevant technical details.

After discussion, the test and acceptance expert committee unanimously agreed that the development and application of the world first integrated energy management system (IEMS) solved the operational problem of "Excessive integration but insufficient intelligence" in the multi-energy park, and upgraded the operational management of the multi-energy park from "passive digital monitoring" to "active intelligent control", significantly improved the operational safety and cost efficiency of the park through online intelligent comprehensive analysis and optimized decision-making, and significantly lowered the operational labour intensity of park through automatic start-stop and closed-loop control, and thus was highly worth generalizing.

This project was led by Professor Sun Hongbin from the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University. On August 28, 2017, the world first IEMS system developed by Professor Sun Hongbin’s team was released at the National Conference on Energy Internet. In June 2018, this team was invited to publish a thesis titled "Integrated Energy Management System: Concept, Design, and Demonstration in China" on IEEE Electrification magazine, and it was the first international academic thesis on IEMS. IEMS is the "brain" of the multi-energy flow integrated energy system, which can effectively improve the operational control level of the energy system, realize the multi-energy complementation of the multi-energy flow integrated energy system and the coordination of the source network load storage, thereby improving the efficiency of the multi-energy flow integrated energy utilization and the level of renewable energy consumption, escort the "green, low-carbon", "safe and efficient" operation of the multi-energy flow integrated energy system, and is of great significance to promoting the transformation of the electric energy system and the development of the energy Internet.
